97 tahoe vortec 5.7. Has Anyone ever put a cam in one of these motors without doing any other motor work? If so, id like to know the setup and how it works as far as performance.

sure. You can get on Comp Cams site and check them out. The lifters are roller, so those should be fine, just get a mild TQ cam, and IMHO change springs and pushrods while at it.

Order a Tuned PCM from Black Bear Tuner, a vendor on this site. Tell them the mods you have or plan to have. That way when you get the cam you'll have the PCM tuned for the Cam and you can put it all in at the same time. Go with Compcams like blueflamed said.

I don't think anybody on this site has a cam in their 5.7, but on GMFS there are a couple guys with OBS Trucks that have cams. One of them was down at our meet last Saturday sounded good too...

I was looking at this cam, it should work no problem since it is supposedly used in the HT383E direct 5.7 replacement motor, which has the same heads as the 5.7... take a look and tell me what you think
