1999 Yukon, 5.7 Vortec. Got a p1345 code, dropped a new distributor in it and relieved the cam/crank correlation code, now have a p0300. (Got Dang) Runs like crap, flashing SEL, the works but only code thrown. Everything looks to be hooked up correctly, funny thing is..... Backed up on the crank pulley to find TDC when installing the distributor putting the motor in a counter clockwise motion, oil smoked for a second then cleared up, that’s when I got the p0300. Did I eff up the heads, jump time a tooth? Everything was replaced during the build but the distributor. Motor on a rebuild has 1400 miles, literally. Any info is helpful, bout ready to roll this thing into the Ohio River.

The P1345 is usually just not having the CMP Retard set correctly following distributor removal, but did the random misfire code start right after that?

If so, you might double-check for correct plug wire routing and secure connections. If that’s good, I’d grab a spark tester and confirm good spark on all eight.

A fuel pressure test may be in order as well, but if it wasn’t doing this before the distributor swap then it could be put on the back burner.

There’s my alignment at TDC on compression stroke. I labeled all wires and should be in the right spot, I am going to change wires tonight. I’m afraid the cap and rotor are junk on the new distributor going to reinstall the old ones just to throw that out. New distributor is aluminum NOT plastic, I’m running out of ideas but after the wire replacement I’m going to put an inductive timing light on the wires to see if I can narrow it down. I’m pretty proficient at this stuff, work a hometown auto parts store that isn’t full of box store idiots, but I’m pulling my hair out especially because this is my boats towing vehicle!

That looks correct.

Have you checked for spark?

I’ve had an aftermarket cap fail all of a sudden after maybe 1,000 miles, giving no spark on #2 and marginal spark on the others, so swapping it with a Delco wouldn’t hurt.

Just in case we had the same distributor, this is what I used and had problems with the cap.

First time I’ve seen plug wires throw a code like that. They looked fine visually. New set like new. Thanks!
