So, the wife broke the passenger side mirror on our 09 suburban LTZ. After looking at it, it seems that the black outer plastic is broken on the front and back but the chrome is fine. It also has some play front and back, like the power fold gear broke a couple gears or something.

How easy is it to replace one of these? Can I get one off eBay and install it on this, if it says it fits oem? I'm seriously thinking of getting a non power fold, so that it can spring closed next time.

Thanks in advance.

my power fold motor went out in my dl3's, and i want to saw the only parts you can change are the glass, the mirror motor, and the upper chrome part. they don't make the dl3's aftermarket, and they run about $500 oem... :(

to change out the whole mirror unit is only about 30 minutes. inside the door, take off the triangle cover at the top of the door behind the mirror (there's three metal retention clips that hold it in). take off the door panel and. you'll see three 10mm nuts holding the mirror unit in place. there will also be a wire harness that runs to the switch cluster on the door panel that you will have to unplug.

after you take the nuts off, there is still a plastic clip that holds it to the door. use some needle nose pliers to get that off.

hopefully someone will correct me if i'm wrong here... you can research the parts on gmpartsdirect.com as well to see if they sell just the part you need.

Thanks, guys. Considering just making the jump to towing mirrors, since the oem mirrors are so much (with all the powerfold, blind spot monitoring, etc)

Still weighing my options...
