Bowtie Install? (Austin TX area)

I'm about to order chrome (or black, who knows what I'll actually decide on) bowties for my Tahoe- I HATE the gold Chevy stock ones! My questions is, would anyone in the Austin area consider a barter of sorts to install them for me?

I have a 250GB PlayStation 3 Slim (newest one) with 2 wireless controllers and a few games I could trade for your time and skills! I can come to you, as well. Also have a couple of desktop computer towers (HP) and a Dell LCD monitor.

I could also babysit your kids!! Lol. I can't really pay cash right now b/c hubby and I both just lost our jobs and I haven't started my new one yet.

If you're interested let me know if we can work something out!

It takes about 10 minutes to swap out bowties. So keep your stuff cuz if anyone would charge anything over $20 bucks to do it they're ripping you off. Two bolts hold on the front, and the rear is glued. Just take a hairdryer and dental floss to the rear and it will pop right off. Or just save your money and paint them yourself.

What he said! It's really easy to do. Took me a little under 15 min to do front and rear. If I was closer I would do it for a 12 pack of bud light haha!i But if you are trying to get ride of that stuff, I'll take it!!

what's the best way for black bowties? paint yourself, or buy pre made black ones? what kind of paint/treatment, etc?

I painted mine and I love it. Easy to remove and probably a cheap job.

The front bowtie is connected with 2 studs/screws on the back. The rear is nothing more than adhesive.

I went with the polished Billet front & rear.

I haven't done it yet, but I'd use 3M double sided tape that you can get at any auto supply store.

If purchasing Bowtie from an online merchant then the rear emblem will already have the adhesive in place and you won't need to purchase anything more.

I also debadged and only switched to the Billet bowties. Love the clean look!

Silicon is also a good adhesive. Double sided tape doesn't allow the bowtie to shit back flush in the holder. If you use Silicon, be generous, push it on, then take it apart, let it get tacky then put it back together. Also an old credit card works well on the front and back bowtie to get them off, Don't take off the whole bow-tie, just word a credit card in the crack between the gold part and the chrome holder, that way you can paint it and when you put it back you won't even be able to tell. I used sign Vinyl, you can heat it up and stretch it smooth. Very clean and smooth finish.

FYI, If I can get enough interest, I have a guy who does plenty of Carbon Fiber for TBSS's and silveradoes who has said he can do ours front and rear in CF for about 175 shipped..... Just need 5 people interested to start the mold.

If you decide you want them black here's another option.

Take off the front one, and just tape off the rear emblem and spray them both with Plasti-dip. I did this on my Silverado and am about to do it on my Tahoe. It gives it a matte black look and hold up pretty good too.

In the 3 years it was on my Silverado it never scratched or started to wear off.

Plus if you get tired of it in the future, there is a way to pull it off.

I cant decide if I want to do Billet for the front and rear, or possibly white or black. Does anyone know if the rear bowtie has holes beneath it or is it just attached with adhesive?

The rear emblem is adhesive mounted with front attached with 2 screws.

but there are two alignment holes...so you can not just remove the emblem and leave it...you would have to fill the two holes
