Blown Bose speaker

I've got the Bose stock system in my 2005 rig and the front driver door speaker is blown. Is this an easy swap or am I going to have to cut out the speaker, splice wires and use self tapping screws to install a new one? I'd change both front speakers at the same time...

you should either replace all the speakers or go back with bose. it'll prevent a lot of headaches...

If you do replace them with aftermarkets, you'll have to mount them with self-tappers. The "true" speaker size is 6 3/4", but any 6 1/2" will do. Some companies make the oversized GM 6 3/4" sizes though. For the wiring, you can buy speaker harness adapters that will plug into the stock speaker harness. You can get these at your local stereo shop or Best Buy.
One more thing, the Bose speakers are two ohm, whereas most aftermarkets are 4ohm, so you may notice a slight difference in output.

The guy was doing something wrong. I install countless number of speakers in 03+ GM trucks with no problems. The amplifier's channels aren't tied into any of the DDM's functions. And what the Best Buy guy said is bogus too. You do not have to rip out all the Bose or On-star crap just to install new speakers.

Yea, that's kinda weird. The only thing I can think of is that he may have been screwing into a harness behind the panel when he was mounting his aftermarkets.

X2, if you find a bose one off ebay or something, it just pops in and out and its a plug for the wiring, but i would keep it bose until your ready to get a whole good system of door speakers and amp

I had the Bose, I just bought an add-an-amp harness and tapped into existing sub leads and installed my own turn on switch(you could easily tie into something that uses accesory turn-on as well I'm sure).

I had bose and put polk speakers in place of the bose with stock everything else. Worked fine. Sound even better now with a complete system.

Thanks for the tips! I found some Infinity Reference speakers that are two ohm, I might buy four of those and do all the speakers at once...
