i used to do that in my race cars and truck, all the gauges were twisted so the normal range had the needles straight up.

Same reason why race cars that spend most of the time with the engine rapped out often have the tachometer clocked in a position so that the critical RPM range is in better sight. Really common with circle track and drift cars.
