I've noticed that the autolamp function on my Tahoe seems to be really sensitive in comparison to all the other cars I've owned with the same feature. Even during relatively bright mornings and evenings, it likes to kick on the headlamps for no reason; I see other Tahoes of the same vintage running around with the DRLs on, when at the same time I'm running with the headlamps on.

Anyone else experience this? Sensor going bad? I've checked the photosensor bubble in the dash and it doesn't seem to be obstructed or dirty. Not sure what else to check.

Yes mine is the same. I want to take the tinted cover off sometimes and see if that helps. I wonder if I can change it with one from another vehicle. I find myself with the lights on all the time.

Hmm. At least I'm not alone. Replacing the tinted bubble with a clear equivalent might be enough to do it, but it looks like it would be a PITA to take the actual bubble/sensor out because of the way it's mounted - we'd probably have to take the whole dashboard apart. Not sure if it's worth it but I might take a closer look at it this weekend.

actually ive replaced the sensor, Mine was like that. Seems like all other Hoes on the road would have DRLs on when i would have full blast Headlights. Also if you have tinted front windows it will also cause the sensor to think its darker out when it really is. Ive replaced my sensor and its a little better now. To replace, take a plastic trim tool and pry up at the line on the dash, Once popped, i slid a aresol can to hold the plastic up. Reach under the dash and twist the sensor out from its holder, Be careful when you unplug it. I dont know if you will be able to retrieve it if it falls down. Reinstall in reverse order.

Right on, thanks Sumo. No tint yet, which is what concerns me because I'm already unhappy with the headlights being on all the time...and I'm planning on getting 15% all around and AirBlue 70% ceramic on the windshield. I'll order a replacement sensor and see about rigging up some kind of clear bubble to go with it.

if your really crafty, im sure you can rig up a potentiometer inline and control the sensitivity.

I have a ford escape that's on the money with the auto lamps. I will compare the two sensors and see if they can be swapped.
