Anyone running a 285/50/20 instead of 275/55/20 on drop?

Thanks! Yea going wither cooper discoverer HTP for $500. Didn’t want to risk rubbing and no plans to lower it more.

A little late but I have 275/55 with the exact same ltz 20s (so same exact offset) on a 2/4. Any wider and it will rub like crazy. After the drop I had small rubbing on sharp corners ,but I trimmed out those specific areas and that went away.

But sounds like you got a set picked out. Tell the tire shop not to put weights on the outside for a cleaner look:waytogo:

Had 285/50’s nitto 420s installed when I bought my Denali wheels. I hated them and the worst tire I’ve driven on. Pulled hard with ruts in the road and when rainy it would constantly hydroplane due to the tires pulling themselves right back into the ruts where the standing water is. Grip was pretty solid in cornering tho. I had mine on a 9” rim, which is the optimal size. I thought they looked bulbous and would be better suited for a 9.5-10” wheel personally.

I’ll be honest, the tires were pretty old, manufactured in 2011, and there was some small cracking on the sidewall, so the age very well could of influenced things. But I do believe it was mostly due to it’s ridiculous width and pretty thick aspect ratio. With that width, the sidewall just didn’t have the rigidity. Stick to a 275 series and drop down to a 50 series if you’re low.

Odd as I had 2 different size 420s on 20s on my truck. The truck drove like it was dry in heavy down pour. Cars would not follow me because of the big rooster tails behind me. Loved those tires and may go back to them in 285/45/22. I've seen a lot of different trucks including Mercedes running them. You may have got a bad set.

I had pirelli in 275/55/20 and I didn't like how tall and narrow they were.. they tracked weird too.

I really want to believe it was the size and the age of the tires. I would try them one more time with a lower profile size in like a 22 or 24 and buy them new.
