Short summary is that SiO2 based ceramics are newer in the market than traditional legacy Carnuba and other synthetic car waxes, and are generally viewed as a better product. It is Never a bad idea to get first application professionally applied because the old wax needs to be cleaned and stripped. For the professional detail, be sure to include a clay-bar treatment before the ceramic coating goes on. After this you can apply yourself annually. I used Meguiar’s ceramic on a new Acura recently and the process is similar to wax, but read and heed the directions. Chemical Bothers car car products website has some great DIY and informational videos. For now I’m sticking to legacy wax for my Yukon, but over Christmas next winter I’ll strip it down and switch to Ceramic. Enjoy the ride and hope this helps.
