I kept my high output alternator that was a direct replacement for the stocker in my 99 Sierra 5.3L. Anyone know if it will be a direct replacement in my 05 YD? Reason I ask...I thought in 03 or 04 there was an alt change or voltage regulator change that might affect this what seems to be a simple swap. Now I have been lazy....so I haven't physically pulled the alt out of the attic and tried to swap them YET, but plan to try it sometime soon. I just don't want to waste my time going thru all of it if someone has already figured out it won't work. My additional concern is that the plug might not be the same. My hunch is all will work and I'm just worrying about nothing.

Pat, me thinks they are the same, just some had higher voltage output.

i do now remember that there is a small and a large case...larger case had bit more output for 99-02, but now my yd has some strange bundle of wiring stuff going to the neg terminal of the battery...i think...that has to do with the voltage regulator and the battery saver crap GM invented. I just don't want to install this bad boy and it get fried for some reason and not even have an opportunity to sell it if i find it won't work. I guess i should just install it and see! LOL...Crap...it just hit me that this sucker needed a slightly higher idle to charge! Might have to wait to install it til AFTER i get a BB tune and have Justin modify my idle speed within the tune!

It wont work on an 05 I dont think. 05 Gm add a module to the alternator to get it to adjust the output.

IGHT....That's what i was afraid of. I see during the day my gauge doesn't show anymore than a little over 12 v charging, but at night with lights on it's at 14v and i thought that had to do with 05+ years. I wonder if this module is attached to the alt or somewhere else?!?

Its attached to the alternator. If you look at it you can see it. I believe there is a plug on it also that is connected to the computers to tell it what to do.

whatever yal do, do not expect a smaller pulley on aftermarket high output alternator help out for long, everyone i know with a smaller pulley on a high output alternator had problems with the alternator going out alot faster than just having a regular pulley on there

thanks for the heads up. ran the alt for 4 years without a failing issue....so far, but now it's sat for 8 months in the attic collecting dust. i'm getting the itch to install the system into the yd...just have to find/build a box for my 3 treo tsx 10's or decide to get another one and go 4.....and if this alt won't work then i'll be selling it and finding one that is compatible.

I'll scoop it from you if you're not gonna use it, trying to make the nastiest charging system on my truck so the voltage doesn't drop when my efans both kick on.

I know it will work for a 99-02 FSC or FSG. It should in turn work for a 2000-2004 Hoe or Kon, but from what I've been told in this thread it won't work for 05-06 Hoe/Kons.

coopiesb has 1st dibs on it, but will pass it to you if he changes his mind. I really have been too lazy to just call Excessive and see if he will help/work with me to make it compatible, if possible. That is an option I will likely pursue when/if I ever get around to doing the install...lol. This ** alt will require your engine idle to be at 750 rpm or higher to charge at idle...fyi. BB can handle that end for anyone that would purchase it at the time they get a tune/retune.
