Aftermarket to Bose connections

i recently got fixated on upgrading from my stock bose headunit to a mid range dvd/ cd headunit , i dont think i wana drop more than say 8-900, found a few that im interested in but im havin a pretty hard time finding the most efficient way of running it into the stock system and im not ready to rip the whole thing out yet as i'd rather go invest in truck performance.
basically it seems like you either have to go metra or pac, havent heard too many complaints about pac but reviews for metra harnesses seem to be split down the middle of either hating it or having it work flawlessly.

anyone running either of these or sumthing i dont kno of short of replacing the whole system

i am using the PAC C2R-GM24 with no problems. this unit will not retain OnStar.
if you want to retain OnStar then you will have to use the OS-2BOSE

I have the least amount of problems with the PAC harnesses. The Scosche and Metra pieces have problems a lot of times, sometimes even fresh out of the package.

might as well retain the onstar even tho i dont subscribe to it, only $40 more and i wouldnt be bothered that there was a "dead" button on my rearview mirror even tho it still sorta is, hows the install on it, ive done some car audio before but nothing that involved a bose setup or retaining the steering wheel controls.
buddy from work brought up the delphi dvd/nav units that come stock on some gm vehicles and if maybe those would work easier, did a search nd ebay has a few for under 500 but that sounds suspiciously cheap, dont kno if anyone has had experience with those
