What is the preferred aftermarket compressor replacement for the factory Delphi part number 1136582 which came on the 1999 Tahoe 5.7 L? And does anybody have any experience with the Sanden style replacement compressors available?

AC Delco with a clutch: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1490566&cc=1353721&jsn=2285 $188.79 with no core at RA

At Amazon: $150.00 https://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Ta...r_1_3?keywords=19188299&qid=1582741269&sr=8-3 Generic aftermarket

AC Delco expansion valve at RA: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=84671&cc=1353721&jsn=2294 $50.79

AC Delco orifice at RA: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=84624&cc=1353721&jsn=2304 $6.30

AC Delco accumulator at RA: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=83050&cc=1353721&jsn=2315 $16.36

May be able to get away without the expansion valve. Use new o-rings and the correct PAG oil and flush the entire system out while apart.

In short, I have no preferred aftermarket compressor, use AC Delco

Thanks PNW, I have looked at Rock Auto but did not see the correct part#1136582 cross reference for my truck. For whatever reason, It seems to be a rarer part# for that application.

Interesting , that's the Sanden style compressor that I mentioned in my op. It doesn't suffer from the steel gasket failure of the HT6 style housing. Thanks for the info.

Careful when removing that accumulator nut from the evaporator at the firewall. I have two 98 models, both have been in the south since new and both had original parts. On one, it came apart with little effort. On the other, the accumulator union seized and ended up twisting the evaporator nozzle.

The damage being done, I finished it off with tin snips and a new evaporator.

A liberal application of penetrating oil or somehow cutting and splitting the union/nut apart may have been a better approach in hindsight, but I didn’t see it twist the line until it was too late.

On the plus side, a completely new a/c is pretty nice to have.

2x this! Although I think mine came apart at the firewall, it refused to come out of the back of the compressor. And I ended up with everything new, except the evaporator bc that was the only thing that didn't show a leak. I even have a new blend door box.

Thanks to all for the good info. My Tahoe should come apart pretty easily given that it only has 30k miles on it. But that's the good news; the bad news is that I have to replace the compressor with only 30k on it. I think I am going to try the Sanden style compressor since reinstalling the same poor design doesn't make much sense...

Also, what is the thought on flushing the condenser absent a compressor failure? Mine is leaking but the system is still working correctly?

I would flush ANY a/c system I open for a repair but is your call. I would still replace with an AC Delco compressor but again, your call. Do not scrimp on this and reuse the same orifice and accumulator.
