I picked this up new in 99. I've put 120,000 miles on it. the only modifications that I have are the stereo dual exhaust and i added air bags to the rear end to help with towing.
In 2007, I bent a valve. I took it to a repair shop. The guy that owned the shop, owed me money. When they pulled the heads off, the cylinder walls looked great. Now the problem.... He told me that we could put new heads on and it would be 2 days to fix. the machine shop was going to be 3 weeks to rebuild the stock ones. The machine shop also sold new after market heads. I agreed, he told me the new heads (rhs racing heads) would increase hp. and torque. bigger intake and exhaust ports.....not sure of the combustion chamber.
after the work, it ran like crap. No power and runs like it has a miss until its past 3500 rpms. Tried different length rods, changed all the injectors plugs wires ect. I have only driven it a few times in the past 7 years. I'm sick of just looking at it sit there. i am at a cross road. I would like to get more hp. do I replace the heads with oem and go from there, or should I get a crate motor that already has more hp. and what about the ecm?

Why did the initial engine bend a valve?? That doesn't just magically happen.

Not knowing the combustion chamber is going to make for alot of guess work. The reason the Vortecs are nice is the small ports and chambers. Your buddy probably killed compression and port velocity with those heads. Pull them off, sell them to someone like me and put stock Vortecs back on.

LOL valve clearance adjustment procedure ... he means valve lash and it's set and forget provided you have the right length pushrods for your application.

i bent a valve while running it hard I lifted my foot, and then mashed the gas again.

I've spent days reading forums.....I think I might have an idea of what I'm going to do. Let me know what you think.

Summit 170 vortec heads. They can except more lift than stock gm

COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Camshafts CCA-07-304-8

COMP Cams 1418-8 - COMP Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip Rocker Arms

long tube headers

any suggestions on this would be great. I'm not sure if I need new push rods or liters.

I don't know if anyone told you but mashing the gas, lifting and mashing again doesn't bend valves. You have another issue, valve float, pushrod issue, lifter coming off the cam due to low spring pressure, etc.

No need to get new heads, you can make stock vortecs take .525 lift easily. But if you have to buy new those are a god choice ...

I wouldn't waste my time on those rockers, go full roller or go home.

well I'm back for an update...

After hours of reading many different forums and some phone calls, I think I have figured everything out. With the limits of the fuel system, I don't feel that I needed to blow extra money on aluminum edelbrock etec heads. So I got the summit vortec heads over the gm. They already have better springs, so I don't need to have any machine work to run a bigger lift cam. The cam I decided on is the comp cam 08-502-8 .495/.503 new lifters rods an rockers. i know that most of you will disagree with me on this, but I did not get roller rockers. I'm not running at 4500+ rpms constantly and its not a race engine. I just didn't see a cost or performance benefit for a dd. New timing chain and headers. Again, I know most of you will disapprove, but I went with shorties. I'm sure that shorties will flow better than stock manifold, but unless I am running WOT all the time, there isn't any gains getting the long tubes. Normal DD 2500 rpm. I didn't waist any money on a CAI.

I will be tearing down an rebuilding everything on the 16 and 17th of the month. I am thinking about new fuel injectors. I have read that there aren't any larger injectors, but i want to know if there are better injectors than oem. Or can you clean them. I would hate to do all this work an find out I have a clogged injector.
Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly welcome. thank you
