Sweet. I've read that post as well as watched that rebuild on Youtube (a couple times). I'll pull the trigger and just rebuild the whole thing. Only have to locate a transmission jack. I'm not sure I can fish that thing back in with my hydraulic jack. You don't happen to know how the front diff weight's do you?

I got the axle and axle housing out. Now I need to figure out how to get the snap ring off.

I'm watching the videos online and reading tutorials but I cannot quite see what they are doing.

Also I inspected the parts.

1. That little washer looks pretty sad but not sure if that's normal. It's scared up.

2. There was some metal on the screws holding the two housing halves together. I'm a bit worried they stripped the threads or it's something worse.

3. There's a plate between housing and gear at end of axle. It seems to slid out of place. Not sure if that's normal.

4. The end of the part coming out of the diff / mating to the axle is warn more on the bottom.

It won't let me post more photos. I'll make a second post here.

5. The edge of the sliding gear seems to be nicked up, as well as other side's teeth (picture in previous post).

6. The end of the shift fork pin (assuming that's what that is called. Seems to be warn down a bit too.

Probably this stuff is normal for 225,000 miles but I've never taken these apart before so I'm not sure...

Additionally, should the shift fork have little plastic covers on the end of it where it mates with the syncro?

I believe I found the problem, one of the previous owners did replace this same bearing... BUT did a shotty job with RTV. Their was dirt inside the axle housing when I got it apart.

Got the axle out. It looks great. However I see what might be another source of my horrible noise...

The little itty bitty bearing on the end of the shaft going into the diff, is nearly 1mm larger than the end of the axle where it connects. granted my caliper is going between the needle bearings. However, there seems to be a lot of slop when I connect the two.

I can considerably wiggle the shaft when I set the shaft on the end of the axle. I've no idea how to replace that bearing. It's the Roller Bearing ASM I/O 26041516 from the diagram shared on page 1 of this thread.

Additionally, I'm not sure what spec size is for that end of the axle shaft.

I've got it figured out... I can find all the parts minus my chewed up washer. Anybody know where I can buy that washer or what it's called?

Additionally, I'm not sure how to get the bearing #26 from diagram out of the stub shaft.

Lastly, what is the factory spec / diameter of axle end that goes into that bearing, #26?

Found the part and ordered it. It's a shim. Thanks for the help.

I'm trying to determine what this part is... I have a good idea but want to make for sure before I take it apart. It's on the case where the stub shaft comes out to the axle housing.

I'm not sure what's spec for slop in this, but the axle stub has some play in it at that bearing. I figure might as well replace as I have it torn apart.

It's the bearing inside the adjuster Number 18 from diagram.

Not sure about the specs, but as far as getting the bearing out, you have 2 options

1. Blind hole bearing puller
2. White bread. No. Seriously. Put some bread int the hole, find a punch or extension or something that seals close to the bearing, smack it with a hammer, add more bread, rinse and repeat. You're pushing it out with hydraulic force
