2nd row radio

I was thinking of swapping my factory head unit with a Pioneer navi/dvd combo. I know I will have to get adapters for OnStar and steering wheel controls to function the same. But what about the 2nd row radio? Is this in any way connected to the head unit or is it a separate radio unit? Thanks.
