I once owned a 1993 Suburban LT and currently own a 2002 Suburban LT (love my suburban - great car with low mileage) both with 5.3L engines which have been perfectly satisfactory for my purposes. Both have had 42 and 31 gallon tanks respectively and used 87 octane fuel. I live in N.C. and travel to the beach and the mountains. I plan to buy a 2025 Tahoe High Country to be used as our main traveling car but will still drive in town for errands. I am torn between a 6.2L with premium gas recommended (understand the ‘21-‘24 problems with 6.2L have been addressed) and the new 3.0L turbo Duramax diesel. My son-in law strongly recommends the diesel (for gas mileage) but having never owned a diesel, I am not sure. I doubt I would trailer anything but if did, it would not be very heavy. I will probably average about 9-10,000 miles per year. I must decide between the 6.2L gas engine and the 3.0L diesel engine. I would appreciate any recommendations. Many thanks!

I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with either choice as they are both excellent choices.

The 6.2l definitely is made for premium fuel but the fuel economy between that and the 5.3l is slightly better so the real difference might be a wash. Diesel has the better fuel economy and if you are not towing anything significant it might come down to which one is the better deal after negotiating with the Dealership, color choice available and the options you want.

The High Country has some great options included so both the diesel and the 6.2l should be pretty close in features. This is a great problem to have lol :)!

I traded in my ‘24 hc 6.2 for a ‘25 hc diesel. I spent allot of money to do it and don’t regret it. My opinion is the 6.2 problems have been acknowledged, not addressed. Gm just announced they’re spending almost a Billion dollars to develop new v8s. So again, my opinion, the current v8s are dead.

I have a 2022.5 Sierra AT4 with the diesel. It’s the first diesel vehicle I’ve ever owned and it’s been great. Don’t let people freak you out about filling up with DEF, based on your usage you’ll probably add def 2-3 times per year.

Fuel costs will probably average out between diesel and premium which means you get all the benefit of additional fuel economy.

It’s all around just a great engine. Go watch any YouTube video about it and people all have positive things to say

Thank you… now I just need to find a dealership that can order me a diesel Tahoe sooner than later. Too many orders now and allocation at dealerships is a problem.

Thank you for your input. My son-in- law strongly suggests I get a diesel.
