Yeah I've been looking at 17x8 and 17x9 wheels, I need more ground clearance. I've hit my side steps far too many times cresting a hilltop or crawling over the rocks. I also need some more/better skid plates for the same reason.
That's why I went with the power step option, because you're asking for problems if you do a lot of off roading on rough terrain. If you're sitting at the stock height, I highly recommend getting a 3 inch lift at minimum. I have that option and I've never topped out inside a parking structure wearing my 35's. If anything, it'll go down in height, because I went back down to the 33's. 35's, a 3 inch Ready Lift kit, and the stock AT4 Magna-Ride suspension put me at exactly 6'6".

That was a concern, I've pulled into a few parking garages in San Diego that always felt like I was about to scrape at stock ride height. I was thinking maybe 2" and some 35s next tax season, but honestly I just wish I could remove the side steps all together and replace them with rock sliders.

There are rock slider kits out there you can try... The other thing I forgot to mention is that I don't have a roof rack - so that also helps with shaving some height off, if that's what you're worried about.

Sometimes it's a "trial & error" process. I know it has been for me over the years, but I'm confident about my ride height now... I've always tested my limits with parking structures so I could get a sense of how much room I was working with - even if it meant holding up traffic to see if I could clear a structure. Fortunately, I haven't damaged my roof or scraped the roof rails, because there's a usually sign posted on the metal bar that indicates the maximum height. I use that to gage the truck height. It also helps to retract your pano-shade so you can see just how close you were to the rails through your glass roof as you drive under it.

Yeah I've got the rails but no rack, I'll throw a tent up there one day, but for now my focus is not ripping my rails off, but still having enough clearance to get over the rocks and the ridges when I go exploring.

Today I had my front tires mounted, and I have zero turning issues with my 14.50 wide wheels. In fact, I have my full turning radius back. Never would I have thought that it was possible to put almost 15 inch wide tires on a Yukon with only a 3 inch height adjustment, and still ride as smooth as the stock wheels. I will admit that the tires barely tuck inside the fender when turning, but I have not heard nor felt any rubbing or vibrations from the rubber hitting any plastic. PS- I have touch up paint for the wheels.

California isn't some backwards town with country living and dirt roads as the main highway. These tires don't have the same "clunky" feeling that my RBP's had at high or low speeds, and they certainly have a level of smoother comfort than my stock tires. Maybe it's because of the tread pattern, or the quality of the rubber compound. Either way, this tire is perfect for my needs.

As for the old lady, she's never expressed interest in driving my truck. Neither have my kids. It looks too intimidating.
