Just got back from the dealership.
After only 1,080 miles, I observed something staining my driveway from under my 3 week old Z71 Tahoe.
After the technician put it up on his lift he came back to me.
“I have some bad news, your engine block has a hairline fracture.”
He took me back to take a look at it.
Sure enough, there is a 3 inch crank seeping oil on the drivers side.
How the heck did this vehicle get out of the factory like this?
Now the dealership is getting me a new engine.
I’m not happy. Even though all the work is warranted, I feel that I no longer have a new truck. It’s been compromised.
Looking for some advise.

Bummer. Casting defects are rare and can be hard to catch without dye penetrant inspections, which I don't believe is standard practice for auto engine manufacturing.

Steel can do strange things during heat treat, probably came cracked from the factory. Hopefully the new engine has the lifter issue sorted out before it gets to you.

Sorry to read this.

However, you are getting a brand new replacement motor, with a free installation, so I'd suggest considering this to be an unfortunate speed bump on the road of life, and just move on when complete.

Oh man I'd not be pleased with that on a brand new ride. Even if you get a new engine and it costs you nothing that's still a pretty big surgery
