My 2009 Yukon has freshly rebuilt engine with just under 2,000 miles on the installation. Oil pressure hits 40-50 at cold start and settles into 15-20 at hot idle, running around 30-35 at speed. All what I’d call normal pressures with no abnormal noise or temps at idle or high RPM. However, the dash gauge seems to move incredibly slow when accelerating, especially when compared to my Chevy Avalanche (5.3l). Is that the nature of these gauges? Could the gauge itself be going bad? I’m looking for some way to plumb in a mechanical gauge just to be sure my pump is working properly. Any insight would be appreciated.

there's a gauge port on the drivers side of the block right as it exits the oil pump. it's a M16 fitting. Quick Google should bring you all kinds of kits for it.

To me, 30-35 psi for a rebuilt motor at operating temperature is low, as I would expect 40+ psi when cruising at operating temperature. To verify, you will need to hook up an external pressure gauge to ensure that you dashboard readings are reasonably accurate.

pressure sounds normal to me.
that stock gauge is designed to move slowly.

The gauge in my truck moves fast as I press the accelerator, you need an external tool to make sure there are no problems before they get worse.

When I deleted the AFM I used a new AC Delco Oil pressure sensor as preventative maintenance and the new sensor seems to be less responsive than the old one. So now I just wait for things to break

did you happen to buy the acdelco one off Amazon? I'm convinced those are all fakes.

not that I really matters, I just had a corvette buddy change the 3rd one in a year, last one is oem off rock auto. it didn't last any longer than cheap ones.

the return was annoying enough he just it away and put a cheap autozone one on it. if it lasts 3 months, that's as long as 2 delcos have lasted and atleast it's a eazy local exchange.

I've been lucky. my dealer bought oem is hanging in there. my Amazon acdelco didn't make it but 3 months or so.

there's a true aftermarket 150$ sensor. don't know if it's any good, but if to. it would be worth the extra money haha

@j91z28d1 I think the one that I bought was from Rock Auto but I've had bad experience with other Ac Delco parts from Amazon also

I replaced the working oil pressure sensor on my C5 Corvette LS1 with a $17 amazon unit 13 mths and 10k miles ago. No issues.
