Hey guys,
Having a dilemma. I have an 01 Yukon XL and I just put a planet audio 8 inch sub in the factory box. It doesn't sound as good as all the reviews I've read. Running a Pioneer head unit and the factory amp. I had to use a spacer to get the sub to fit. My question is do I have an air leak causing it to sound distorted? I can barely hear it up front. I have it wired in parallel down to 2 ohms and have tried to think of what it could be. I've been doing car audio for a long time, but not much with factory enclosures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Am I better off going back to the stock radio?

Pics, please.

Regarding your sub issue, I don't believe that an air leak around the enclosure would account for a highly distorted sound. My guess is that your factory amp is not capable of running a 2 ohm configured sub with the power that the new sub requires. To test out my guess, I recommend that you wire the two voice coils in series to make it an 8 ohm sub and see if the sound is less distorted. It the sound is better, then your issue is as I am guessing.

I run the same woofer in my hoe, the factory amp sucks. You are way better off bypassing the factory amp and running your own amp which I did and let me tell you it sounds way better.

I've heard many people say it sounds good when properly mounted in the factory box in the back. My XL has the narrow box so I'm trying to figure out how to make a spacer to get the sub to sit right with no air gaps
