NorthernYukon97- The best way to eliminate the EVO system is to replace Steering pressure hose. Use a 96 hose. Disconnect wires from EVO valve at P.S pump, unscrew EVO, Reconnect wires and tyrap securely out of the way.(leaving valve connected fools computer. no codes) Install 96 Hose. I like to re-shim pump for better feel too(see other steering posts).
EVO increases flow at low speeds when working properly, just a solenoid valve. So when it does it at the wrong time its dangerous/ why there is a bypass kit. Should have been a recall. (96 hose $30, Kit $60 and one more fitting to leak.

Thank you exp500, appreciate it. I’ll look into that. It’ll be my next project in this truck.
Cheers,

NorthernYukon- I forgot to mention the flow control valve in back of pump. A hex headed fitting that the pressure hose screws into. Almost any metric saginaw will work, need a throat dia of about .110-.140 . Hydroboost about .160-.200. I usually replace the pump too with a 96 that has it installed already. There is a spool, spring and ball behind, so careful when removing EVO also.

Hi guys, decided to get the Yukon ready for another winter. I picked up that bypass kit, haven’t installed it yet. And looked at the rear defroster. Cleaned up the contacts, and found one plunger stuck. Before I bought another one, figured I would see if I could fix it. It’s is serviceable at the end of the day. Disassembled it, cleaned everything up, cleaned all the contacts, and res installed it. We’ve had a couple frosts now, next frost we get I’ll give it a try and see if it works now. A few pics.

I’ll report back either way if it worked or not..
