    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

I never updated this thread last year after getting the Suburban back on the road, so here goes... Had it dyno tuned locally here in south central Kansas. I thought he did a great job on the 1st pass. 385ish rwhp if I recall. He was having issues with the fuel pump control module not...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Found a flex fuel tank local. And picked up a brand new oem flex fuel pump from a guy in town. Got all that swapped in last weekend. Waiting an a few injectors to show up to the dealership so I can finish installing those. Was recommended to call a local guy about tuning from a buddy of mine...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Update without pictures.... Sold the 6.2 crap for pennies on the dollar for what I paid for it. Oh well. FINALLY spent time to work on the Suburban. The 6.0 looked fantastic internally when I opened it up. All parts are installed. Had to get new plug wires since the factory style AC...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

I can’t remember exactly to be honest. By the time I bought the sleeves, new rings, and had the machine sharp do the work, it wasn’t going to be much different than just boring and putting in new pistons. Still needed to address the crank with that scenario too. So said eff it, scrapping the...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

All remaining parts got here yesterday. Unfortunately looking more at our schedule over the next 2 weeks, there's no way I'll get this thing back on the road before Christmas. I'm guessing early January at the soonest now. We'll see. Need to call the shops up in the KC area that were...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

So finally an update. Opted to redo the 6.0 verses go through with the 6.2. Talked to the machinist about new factory sleeves, and it didn't really seem all that feasible and much cost savings verses boring it and new pistons. By the time I did a new rotating assembly, it was going to be...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

I have considered it. They use the same crankshaft. I did not know that about sleeves. I'll research that. $288 plus new rings, using the 6.0 crank (assuming it's good) and current 6.2 pistons is considerably cheaper. Now, I'd still have the rebuild kit (bearings, gaskets, etc.) and am...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

I'm leaning heavily towards that as well. I don't want to, but am cutting my losses with the 6.2. There's just been bad vibes all along with it, and I just don't have a good feeling about it continuing. Think I'm just going to put a stage 2, non-DOD/VVT cam in the 6.0, headers, L9H injectors...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Feeling pretty defeated, but not completely ready to throw in the towel just yet. Machine shop called last week so I swung by after work. Good news is a light hone cleaned up the cylinders. Bad news in that the stock pistons and rings (160K + miles) "have some play". I don't know exactly...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Well I haven't gotten very far yet. Still waiting for the block to come back from the machine shop. I had parts picked out and about to pull the trigger, but decided to wait to see if the block needed bored or not. Still need to get with Blackbear regardless... Between the delay at the...

    For Those with Aftermarket Camshafts

@Foggy have you gotten your idle figured out? My 6.2 block should be back from the machine shop next week, and I'm still needing to get parts ordered. I've decided that I'll stay with VVT given that I'm a 4spd trans with stock converter. My 1st choice is the same Gwatney cam you have, but...

    DOD FAILED. CAM THOUGHTS

That sounds good at idle! I'm in the process of gathering parts for a 6.2 build to replace the 6.0 in our Suburban with a failed lifter. Still undecided on VVT or non-VVT with an aftermarket cam. The one you went with is definitely larger than what I was looking at, but looks/sounds like your...

@decembersend Any updates? Drivability, idle, exhaust loudness, etc?

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Piston skirts have the same vertical wear marks. Dropping the block off at the machine shop today to get an assessment on if we can hone it out, or if it'll need bored. At minimum re-ring the pistons if a light hone cleans it up. Worst case, bore with new pistons/rings. Still haven't landed...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Well, finally had a chance to tear into the L9H engine last night to see what I was dealing with. Not pleased with what I found to be honest. Inside is filthy, with crud buildup in the bottom of the pan. Cam lobe on #7 is worn badly. Lifter roller still spun ok, but galled up pretty bad...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

UPDATE: I was able to get the L9H bought. Picked it up Friday evening. There was a death in his family that delayed getting it pulled. He had the rest of the Yukon XL there still, but a friend was supposed to be coming to buy it to swap the interior into his Tahoe. I'm going to be reaching...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

WELL... hit a bit of a snag. The guy close to me with the L9H has quit responding to phone calls or texts. The ad is still active for the engine, but I cannot get a response from him. Looks like I'm going to have to move on. Dang disappointed since it's so close to me. Found an L94 down in...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Hoping to go pickup the engine this evening. In the meantime, here's the rig. When we bought it (sorry, not a great picture and the only one I can find on my phone). Stock wheels, debadged, no running boards. New wheels. My wife insisted on black, it's not my thing at all, but you can...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

Thank you for the welcome. Been browsing for a while anyway, finally setup a login, then BAM - stuck lifter! As for mating the 6.2 to the 4spd, being that it's an M70 verses the 4L60, might help some. In stock form with a tune, I'm hoping/planning on it being able to hold together. But if I...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

It's the only 1/2 suburban I've ever been around with the aluminum 6.0. I thought it might have been swapped before, but got the build sheet from my cousin's dealership to confirm factory options. BTW, the truck version L76 does have AFM and VVT. As for the L9H, one of the reasons I was...

    2008 Suburban Engine Swap - 6.0 to 6.2

New member trying to search and learn as much as I can in short time. So my apologies if I missed this swap already being covered. Most I see are a 5.3 to 6.2 swap. We bought our 2008 LTZ Suburban 1500 4x4 several months back and so far it's been great (minus the fuel economy). Factory...
