Engine sounds a whole lot better running perfect. smoked a lot at first. Misfire has gone away. Still have a P0443. We also still have this strange clunking sound coming from low in the engine possibly even the transmission we are looking into this now

The best brand lifter to buy is what I meant. We got them in cam looked good. We are in reassembly fighting the weather. We have hit a road block not sure of the best way to put the foam pads back in under the intake manifold

We got the head off this morning bout to go to cleaning everything real good. Sure enough the cylinder 4 lifter is collapsed and came apart into two pieces. Doing some research to know what the best lifter to buy is and from where. Once we get those installed we will methodically piece this...
Pushrod is straight the rocker arm is tight. We are thinking probably a collapsed lifter. Going to try to use an additive to free it. If that doesn’t work we will replace lifter

Yeah have to wait till I have my dads help to pull the head. Once we are in we will know more. I’ll keep y’all posted for sure and appreciate all the advice. A rocker arm wouldn’t make it blow smoke would it?

Buddy and I just did it outside his shop. Didn’t do a wet compression test, though I did mention it. They were swamped and he was really just trying to help me quickly no charge. Would love to have spent a little more time on their high dollar reader running tests but he said it doesn’t do much...
Appreciate your response. I guess best case scenario here would be head gasket or lifter then. He told me they have someone that can rework it unless it’s the piston then may as well go with new engine.

Will know more once I get into the engine. Possible head gasket, bad cylinder, bad piston, bad lifter. Don’t have any money to put into it unfortunately and they are Suggesting a whole new engine so... hope this thread helps someone else out there. Once I get another good job a new truck will be...

Replaced the vent valve under the car about 6 months ago because of pressure building up in gas tank. No codes pointing towards it and gas tank isn’t pressurized ,it seems fine. Charcoal canister could be bad and clogged I guess. When I crank it almost cranks faster than normal and it stutters...
Alright so after second analysis it appears that the P0443 is pointing us right to the purge solenoid under the hood or the PCM. After checking with multi meter and checking vacuum when plugged in and unplugged all seems to be ok with the new solenoid. At another road block.

My dad corrected me and said thick shite smoke would be like a sceeter truck. This is just regular white smoke. I will inspect the lines further and make sure there’s not a grounding issue. Thank all y’all for the responses. I will be relived once this is resolved until the next project.-JPS...

@PNW thanks for the response. Yeah I’m self taught and still learning. Never done compression test before but will give it a go. The Coolant levels are steady which lead us to rule out the head gasket. Oil is being burnt faster than normal.

Thanks. Pops and I are going to try this next got an old one from my grandpa hopefully she still works. Know anything about overriding the AFM read that it’s potentially stuck on four cylinders
