    Oil pressure oddity

So......... UPDATE. Oil pressure has gone to crap twice again, always after about 1500 or so miles. Last time I just changed the oil filter and NOTHING else and the pressure was back to excellent. This last time I did a full oil change, boom excellent pressure. I just dont get this thing, it...

    Oil pressure oddity

Well I know there was something about certain filters not having drain back valves, is it possible that the valve is sticking open? I had to destroy the filter to get it off, my wrench kept slipping and I had no other recourse. It wasn't sludged up, and didnt seem clogged but I seen the valve...

    Oil pressure oddity

So a new update!! One day a few weeks ago, just out of the blue, oil pressure dropped from consistently 45 cold to 35 hot, to 40 cold 20 hot. So I replaced just the filter and boom, 60 cold. Bad filters? I use the delco filter.

    Oil pressure oddity

I can understand that, and I will do that. But with talking with the dealer who serviced it for me orginallly, when this happens, we dont think the actual oil pressure is dropping. This last time I drove 5 miles at highway speed with it at 3 psi, and the engine was stone quiet. He said, eith...

    Oil pressure oddity

What's always confused me, is why just changing the oil fixes the issue, for a few months, it doesnt use any oil, the level on the dipstick is always the same, and these issues only come up with prolonged driving, 2hrs or more continuously, no breaks

If it was the oil ring, would the oil pressure be constantly bad?

    Oil pressure sensor replacement

I did mine, on a 08'. Get the sensor socket, a swivel and a extension. Its possible to do without removing the intake. There's not alot of room, your hands will be jammed in there but its possible. Also replace the screen underneath the sensor while your there.

    Oil pressure oddity

So...... saga continues. Took a long trip today, about 2 hrs on continuous driving. The last 15 mins, oil gauge went to about 5, stop engine now message. Still drove about another 15 mins as i was on the interstate in a not great area to stop, but what I've also learned as when this happens...

    Oil pressure oddity

So, just replicated the trip I took last weekend that lead to my oil pressures demise. During the whole trip, about 2 hrs round trip, oil pressure never got below 42. Also, the pan is still dry after cleaning it during the oil change, so no leak.

    Oil pressure oddity

I've only owned since November, have no clue what oil or filter the dealership I bough it from used. When it was changed to 2 mo ths ago, it was at a Chevy dealership, and so they used their standard oil, and ac delco filter. I used the same ac delco filter this time, and Amazon basics oil, as...

    Oil pressure oddity

So update, after talking with the service writer at the dealership, he suggested I flush the engine and change the oil and filter again. So I did that tonight. A few observations.... one when running the flush, oil pressure still sucked, 20 at idle warm. Checked oil level before flush, was...

    Oil pressure oddity

Problem is, I maybe put on 6000 miles a year, so in 2 months I put 400 to 500 miles a month. So this oil maybe had 1000 miles on it. It's just weird that a prolonged trip in the warmest weather of the year that this happens.

    Oil pressure oddity

I would assume so. But I dont have a clue what filter was on there the first time, as I bought it used from a Lexus dealership. With the most recent oil change they said it was a no name filter with no part numbers or anything on it.

    Oil pressure oddity

Yes the screen was changed when I replaced the sensor. The old screen wasnt really that dirty, but knowing how hard it is to replace the sensor, I figured might as well change it while I'm there. Last time and this time, when the pressure dropped to next to nothing, the engine was quiet, no...

    Oil pressure oddity

SOOOOOOOO, here we are again. Same issue has manifested itself this weekend. This thing drives me nuts. Is it possible the by pass valve in the pump is sticking? Oil pressure drops the warmer the engine gets. At cold I got about 42, once up to operating temp it was about 5.

    Stalling, Jerking

This doesnt happen when I'm in hybrid mode. Has only ever happened with the ICE running only. Now, knowing how other hybrids work, is the hybrid system assisting the ICE from a stop? Is it possible the hybrid battery is weak when sitting awhile and that's causing the issue? Hybrid mode seems...

    Stalling, Jerking

So I've seen this discussed before, but I think my situation may be a little different. Occasionally, as in maybe 1 out of every 10 trips, experience a stalling or jerking issue when leaving from a dead stop. My issue happens when the engine is still running and not in hybrid/ auto stop. I'll...

    Fuel Pressure

So I have a question. How reliable are the fuel pressure readings from a OBD scan tool? I'm trying to track a issue, and during that tracking I noticed that at startup my fuel pressure is 59 psi, then after getting a block down the road, it drops to 47, and I've seen it as low as 43. Also...

    Oil pressure oddity

Update, so dealership did confirm a bad oil filter. The filter that the previous dealership put on has no name or part number. New fikter, fresh oil, took it on a 30 min drive, and oil pressure never got below 40
