Talk me out of it or into it

We had a Transit T250 with 3.5 EcoBoost. Far stronger than our 5.3 Tahoe with max towing, and got substantially better mpg than our V8 Express van. Folks seem to forget just about every diesel on the market is turbocharged. We don’t tow over 6,000 and the Tahoe does a great job with that. The...

    2016 Tahoe - Boston

Bought a Sprinter which can tow the boat so we debated getting rid of the Tahoe. I don't like driving it at all. My wife likes being high up but doesn't like the large footprint. We've had to replace some AC parts and transmission lines, but everything else is holding up OK. As we already have...

    2016 Yukon XL tiresuggestions..

We had such great experience with Nokian winter tires that we started using their Summer/AS tires as well. We used to use Michelins but have switched almost completely. You need to find a dealer but it's a premium tire at lower-than-Michelin prices. But their website says the stock size is...

What kind of Fuel treatment and cleaners do you guys recommend

Another vote for Techron. Spoke to a Yamaha engineer some years ago (we have a 150 4 stroke) and he felt it offered the best results. He did not say so but Yamalube Ring Free is made by Chevron and a lot of people assume it’s the same stuff.

Found the limits of my 4WD Denali with all season tires in snow

3 Its a performance standard. Quebec, and some mountain passes in the west require them. To be a M+S Tire, there is only an open tread requirement, but no performance rating. Winter tire has no legal definition. The SS rating is a performance standard developed by the Canadians and NIST. SS...

Found the limits of my 4WD Denali with all season tires in snow

The O’Neil Rally School has a winter driving course. They require Severe Snow rated (Mountain/Snowflake icon) to take the class. They refer to A/S as “No Seasons” or “No Reasons.” We have Nokian Hakka R2’s on 18” rims. We also bought chains for the rears.

    Locking center differential?

The MP3023 seems to be the rear differential, not the transfer case? I am asking about the transfer case, specifically if it can be locked, or is locked by default in low range. Imagine the rear wheels were on a frictionless surface and front wheels had perfect traction. If we engaged 4WD Hi...

    4WD or AWD

AWD systems drive all four wheels all the time. Most 4 WD systems can’t drive all four wheels all the time: usually dry pavement. “Automatic” 4WD systems detect wheelspin with the ABS sensors and activate the transfer case. But because they don’t - can’t - drive all wheels all the time, they...

    Locking center differential?

We have a 2016 Tahoe LT with Max Towing Package. Max Towing includes high and low range 4WD. Does putting the truck in low range lock the center differential? Can’t find any reference too that in the manual, just a general warning about driving on hard road sufaces. For that matter haven’t been...

    Tire chains

Wound up getting a pair of inexpensive ladder chains. Ladder chains suck for driving far or fast, but these are emergency chains. $75, weigh 28 lbs, come in plastic-lined cloth bag, and fit in the compartment. https://www.etrailer.com/Tire-Chains/Glacier/PWH2228SC.html

    Tire chains

No problems driving around Boston or trips up to Mount Sunapee or elsewhere in N New England. Last storm at Sunapee was 14-15” of extremely wet, heavy snow. Got stuck in the driveway. Couldn’t believe it. Had to pull it out with the tractor. It should be noted it’s a 700’ long gravel drive with...

    Tire chains

Anyone using tire chains? I’d like to get them for our 2016. We are using OEM 18” rims with the winter tires. According to eTrailer they are only recommended for rear wheels. These are fairly low profile diamond pattern chains, which generally ride and turn better than ladder chains.

    2016 Tahoe - Boston

This vehicle already has far too much unstrung weight so bigger wheels and tires would only hurt the ride and handling on our lousy road surfaces. It’s a lot better than older trucks: it’s just a lot worse than modern Crossovers, which have stiffer chassis, fully independent suspension, lower...

    2016 Tahoe - Boston

We started looking at alternatives and it looks like we will be keeping the Tahoe. Friends have a Mercedes GL450 and the 3rd row isn’t very big either. They suggested the big Infiniti but they are too garish for my tastes. We rented a Sequoia for a week and my wife prefers the Tahoe...

5.3 Max Tow or Denali 6.2

Agree with swathdiver. Been towing racing sailboats for many years. They are very heavy due to lead keels, and often have a lot of wind resistance, and we towed anywhere from 50 to 1,500 miles (one-way) per regatta. Our chosen tow vehicles were cargo vans. We had a Chevrolet Express with 3.73...
