    Buyer Beware - Don't Buy a Yukon

I bought a 2005 Yukon XL new in Jan 2005. At 80k, they showed me some metal in the transmission pan during a service visit. I bit, and had them install a remanufactured GM transmission for $3200. It had a factory warranty for 3 yrs/50k miles, but a Service for Life with that dealer. At 140k, the...

Changing flat tire, lug nut removal?

Check with your auto insurance company. Most provide roadside assistance insurance coverage for a much lower rate than AAA, and you can call them for help. They will find a local tow company and tell you what the response time will be. I pay $10 a year to State Farm, and they handle the rest...

Changing flat tire, lug nut removal?

Where do you live? I live in the suburbs of Washington DC, and in the 10 years I was a member of AAA, the three times I called them, they never got there in less than three hours. I can change my own flat, but I can't tow my own vehicle. I won't ever be a member again.

90K miles on original tires. Any one using Michelins Cross Climate2 tires?

I have a 2005 Yukon XL that I bought new. I now have 247K on it. Every set of tires I have purchased have been Michelin LTX M/S2s. I typically get 70K+ miles, and they are very good in rain and snow. I usually replace them around 70K miles simply because they are starting to lose a little...

As close as I can get to OEM front shocks??

I have the same vehicle. I replaced my OEM shocks with Bilstein 4600 series. Because I had the ZW7 Premium Smooth Ride, I had to order the Bilstein rear coil springs as well. I have had them on the vehicle for 80K+ miles. I like them better than the original shocks and springs. I bought the...

    Dump EFI for Carburetor?

I have a Zurich XR13 OBD2 Code reader that also reads SRS & ABS codes. I got it from Harbor Freight. It's easy to use, and once you have a code, you can Google it to find the likely solution(s). It has saved me a lot of time and money. It paid for itself the first time I used it.

    Dump EFI for Carburetor?

Another issue is fuel. Your fuel pump is providing around 50 psi of pressure. A carburetor can't take more than 6 psi, so you'll have to get an adjustable regulator. You'll also have to deal with the return line from the fuel rail to the tank. I see other issues you'll have to consider as they...

    Transmission upgrade?

Nick Transmissions, do you know of any companies in the MD/VA who have a transmission or build like you've described available? I have a 2005 Yukon XL SLT w/5.3 Z code and 4L60E, and 242K. The transmission is getting a little tired, and I am planning for a little more power, so I don't want...

    2023 Yukon XL or Standard?

I would purchase the XL. My first GM SUV was a 2001 Chevy Suburban. A good friend who owned a 2001 Tahoe took a couple of trips with me. Two months later, he traded his Tahoe for a 2003 Yukon XL. He still has it. In 2005, I traded my Suburban for a new 2005 Yukon XL. It now has 238K miles, and I...

Someone stole gas from me and now my engine runs weird?

If your VAN'S 8th character is a "Z", you have a Flex Fuel/E85 vehicle. I have had two, a 2001 5.3 Suburban and a 2005 Yukon XL 5.3. Both had black Fuel caps from new. The Yukon now has 237K miles, and did have evap vent and solenoid problems, which set a CEL, and caused Fuel filling problems...

OE Shocks for my 2004 Tahoe

Understood. I only tow a 10X5 utility trailer occasionally. My wife believes that "camping" is staying in a Holiday Inn Express with no room service (lol). In fairness, we're now 71, but we started tent camping in 1971, and had everything from a very used pop-up to a mini motor home over the...

OE Shocks for my 2004 Tahoe

I changed to the Bilstein 4600s front and rear. I also changed the rear springs using the Bilstein springs because I had the ZW7 Premium Smooth Ride rear. Best thing I could have done. I have 50K+ on the truck (2005 Yukon XL SLT 5.3 Z) since the change and I love it.

    Our trucks VS Toyota Sequoia???

I have a 2005 Yukon XL SLT /5.3 E85/4L80E with 236K miles. I purchased it new. The transmission was replaced at 83K because the dealer showed me metallic sheen in the pan. Then at 130K the 3rd-4th pack went out, but since I had a Lifetime Service agreement with the dealer, they repaired it at...

    I'm about done...

Am I just lucky? I bought my 2005 Yukon XL 5.3L 4L60E Flex Fuel 4X4 new with 4 miles on the odometer b/c it's a Southern Comfort conversion. At 82K, I did have the dealer replace the transmission because when they serviced it there was excessive metal in the pan. I now have 233K on the Yukon...

How many miles did you get out of your original Transmission?

I bought my 2005 Yukon XL new in January 2005. It's a 5.3L 4L60E. At 82K I had the transmission serviced by the dealer. The Service Writer took me back to the shop, where the tech showed me that there was a fair amount of microscopic metal in the pan. I purchased a GM Remanufactured transmission...

    Should I take a 3000 miles road trip w/ 144k miles

I have a 2005 Yukon XL, currently with 233K miles. In Pril 2021, we left for a 7500 mile, 5 1/2 week trip. The Yukon had about 197K on it then. We left VA, drove to Chicago to get on Historic Route 66, and did the entire trip all the way to the Santa Monica Pier. We came back through Las Vegas...

Tried it all, I need help. A constant Oil pressure fight.

OR VietVet, There IS something about these '05s! My '05 Yukon XL LT 5.3 Z-code (Flex fuel), bought new, has 231K miles on it. Now, (crossing my fingers), I have not had any oil pressure issues at all. It has 45-47 PSI at startup, and never drops below 25 PSI. I have the oil changed when the Oil...

    High mileage Yukon

B-train, I have a 2005 Yukon XL that I purchased new at the GMC dealer In Manassas, VA. At 82K mi. I had to have a GM Reman Trans in it. The dealer gave me a Service-for-Life agreement, which was fortunate, because at 150K, the 3-4 gear assembly failed. So obviously, GM didn't resolve all of...

    Tow Truck Ripped Frame

You definitely do NOT want the frame replaced. As StuckinMN posted, that will create far more problems than you currently have, and you might never be able to trade in or sell the vehicle. Just get it repaired.
