    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

Thanks! I'll keep an eye on that in case anything flares up. Got a new battery, popped it in, and all the weird issues vanished. I feel silly for trying to read too far into this, but I've never had a bad battery create such logic defying (at least for me) symptoms. But hey, this all goes in...

    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

So, as of now, I can confirm it is a bad battery. I charged it yesterday, let it sit overnight, and it discharged to about 12.35V. Took it to autozone just now to get tested and it is indeed bad. I do feel like there’s another gremlin lurking, but I’ll have to wait to see until I get a new...

    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

Roger that. I’ll give it a full charge, take new readings and report back. On a related note, I replaced the alternator (with OEM AC Delco) in March last year.

    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

Correct. But as I’m standing here now, it’s no longer doing that. Here are the readings I’m seeing now… Battery disconnected, touching terminal (12.3V) Battery connected, touching bolt, ignition off (8.3V) Battery connected, touching bolt, ignition on, engine not running (5.4V)

    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

No, I haven’t had it load tested. The battery type for this truck has female terminals on the battery. So the cable ends have a bolt (which I’ve been calling “stud”) that attaches to the battery. When I get the 4.5 V reading, it’s when the multimeter lead is touching this stud screwed into the...

    Electrical issue... grounding? short?

I'll try to provide as much info as I can, but I'm completely stumped with a electrical issue on my '04 Suburban 1500 that prevents me from starting the truck (or any electrical response now). I've had an problem with what I thought was a bad ground where the truck will be functioning fine...

Strange electrical issue post battery drained

I think you may be right. I disconnected the battery while at work so it wouldn’t drain, and when I reconnected it after work to head home, everything was back to normal. Still gonna give it a charge and keep an eye on it.

Strange electrical issue post battery drained

Yeah, I plan to charge it tonight when I get home. The thing that’s throwing me is that it’s not whole groups of functions (i.e. gauge cluster), it’s portions. The speedo and tach work fine, but the others (oil, water, voltage) don’t. On a side note, I think I know what caused the problem to...

Strange electrical issue post battery drained

My ‘04 Suburban 1500 sat undriven over this past weekend, and when I came out this morning, the battery was weak. Almost didn’t turn over when I tried to start it. After driving it a bit, when I shut it off, it has no issue starting back up again.... but certain things aren’t working and I can’t...

Which head bolts... 1st or 2nd design?

Well, it’s a hell of a process, to say the least. Give yourself 3x as much time as you think you’ll need and get every possible specialty tool from Autozone. If this is your daily driver, definitely make sure you have a backup. There’s is no one-size-fits-all process for this as there a wide...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Alright, circling back around with the update. Problem solved! Swapped out the idler and pitman arms and then installed the cognito supports. The linkage is now solid as a rock! It’s no race car, but the steering has waaay less slop. The wheels don’t toe in nearly as much as they used to. I’m...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

No. They attach to the same points where the pitman/idler arms bolt on to the box and center link. The easiest way to think of them is as mirrors to the pitman/idler underneath. It creates a second connection point on the under side of the center link to prevent the joints in each arm from...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

I have both, and normally that’s how I like to do things... make > buy. But I just don’t have time to fabricate anything right now, so I have to place a high value on the time it would take (buying, designing, shaping, welding, finishing). I gotta keep the wife happy so I can steal time to work...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Yeah, there’s a lot of movement. Same as I see on a lot of other GM trucks with the center link rolling forward and back. I’m just gonna bite the bullet and replace the pitman/idler arms, and install the cognito braces. F it. The boots are old and cracked or cracking on the tie rods, so I’ll...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

That’s awesome. And I would totally go for it, til I saw the price tag. $230 is too much for a brace. At present, with my front end sitting at about 1.5” up from stock, I don’t even notice. I ordered some tie rod sleeves, but feel like the linkage would benefit a lot more from braces as soon as...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Well, you’re completely right, I shouldn’t have to. It’s more that I have very little disposable time so I prefer to go into something having the answer so I can be clear about my expectations up front. That leaves less open to interpretation and hedges against the “meh, good enough” sentiment...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Yeah. I’m going to mention it specifically when I take it in. I don’t think it’ll be an issue though. The place I use is very well respected in the community and has always done good work. On that subject, do you have specs handy that I might provide to them?

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Yes. I have to do some trimming to accommodate the new wheels/tires. Once they’re on, I’m taking it in. Hopefully that’ll happen next week. My adjustments are only temporary to hold me over til then.

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Alright. Let’s all relax. It was stupid of me to even engage that way regardless of how I might feel. I know full well that being at all adversarial online never ends well and surely doesn’t advance the subject toward a productive solution. So, all good... water under the bridge. I’m gonna...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be rude, but this comment is not helpful. I’m aware of what I did, I spent time researching and weighing pros and cons, and I did it because I don’t have an extra $3k-$5k to spend on a comprehensive lift. I’m aware of the tradeoffs. Trust me, I would looove to build a...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Got it. Well, to the best of my knowledge, the steering, and specifically the center link has never been worked on, and I’ve never touched it. So unless the factory flipped it, it should be on as intended. While I’m technically the 3rd owner, the truck has been in my family since day one. My dad...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Had to think about that for a moment, but yeah, that makes sense in understanding the forces at work. Sorry, I should clarify. The lift is currently at 3”, not the spacers. The wheel spacers are 2”, which I calculated specifically to maintain adequate backspacing for the new wider wheels and...

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

Pro Comp ES9000 shocks. OE springs with spacers in the back. But that’s less relevant because it was doing this when I had only installed the front before I even touched the rear. The shocks feel good. Definitely an improvement over my tired OE shocks. Also, no sagging whatsoever in the rear.

Front wheels toe in under power... a lot!

I just put a leveling kit on my ‘04 4wd Suburban 1500 (torsion keys in the front, spring spacers in the back, new extended shocks all around, and wheel spacers all around for my eventual new wheels and 33s). When I’m on the throttle, my front wheels toe in a lot under power. I can stick my head...

    What’s that sound?

Yes, it is indeed an exhaust leak and I know exactly why. This Sub must’ve had some work done on it before it came into my position because when I tore down the engine, the front and rear studs on the driver side were already broken off in the head. I forgot to drill them out before reassembling...
