What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I broke mine! Installed a new radiator, heater hoses, aluminum y-adapter (Dorman), GM Genuine T connectors at the firewall. On the test drive it blew the trans cooler line back out of the new radiator and I lost all the fluid. Now the transmission won't shift right. I'll start a thread in...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Wheels! and tires. My tires were 5 years old and severely worn on the inside. I found a guy locally who was selling the 18s off his brand new 2022 Silverado. Less than 1k miles on the wheels and tires. Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HT with DOT dates of 0122! $500 out the door. Before: After:

My “new” 05 - updates, upgrades and service plans

-Tony...What lowering springs did you use. I used the Moog Z71 springs on my Denali when I removed the air ride in the back and now it sits too high in the back, but at least 2 to 3 inches more than the stock rake.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Last Friday I "fixed" my electrical system. The trouble had started when I installed the efans (months ago) so I assumed that the Hayden controller needed to be replaced/rewired and was draining the battery. Nope, it was just a bad battery. I was sure the battery was only a few months old but...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Replaced the tail light junction box and the bulb sockets for the DRL...the DRL bulbs had melted the sockets and were starting to melt the tail light housing around them. Finished shopping for all the parts/supplies to wire in the new fan controller and upgrade the grounds and power wire.

At least a belt is an easy fix...if it stays on!

Want to delete denali air ride, which springs?

I put the 81069 springs and KYB Gas Adjust shocks on the back of my 04 XL Denali a few weeks ago. It did raise the back by 1.5 or more inches. The ride is great! All I did to disable the air ride (instead of using resistors that the shock plugs) was to disconnect the battery, remove the ride...

    Transmission rebuild - ongoing issues!

That's a thought. The shop flushed the cooler and the lines, but I haven't inspected or blown out or cleaned the fins on the outside of the cooler. I'll have to give that a shot.

    Transmission rebuild - ongoing issues!

It's 97 deg out and when I got back from picking up my boy these were the gauges read the Tras temp at 190 or 195 and the coolant temp at 205. I feel like the transmission ran cooler than this prior to having problems and the subsequent rebuild. Does that trans temp sound normal or is it a...

    Transmission rebuild - ongoing issues!

A Bit of an update! He had the truck for 5 days and I picked it up. It has a new dip stick, it does not leak transmission fluid after driving and it doesn't smell of transmission fluid in the truck while driving. This is all great except for the fact that he says he didn't do anything except...

Replaced Z55 Air ride with KYB Gas adjust and Z-71 springs - ride is too high

If I wanted to maintain the original ride height and but also maintain the current ride quality, would a 2" lowering spring work? Would I have to put the shocks on lowering brackets? I guess I'm just not sure if something like this would drop it 2"below the stock height or if it would drop it...

Replaced Z55 Air ride with KYB Gas adjust and Z-71 springs - ride is too high

Thanks Mike and Chase! What you're describing (Mike) is the exact thing I'm experiencing. I'm going to leave well enough alone for now. I haven't done any real highway driving since making the changes. If any problems arise, I'll dig in further. If no problems, I think I just have a little...

Replaced Z55 Air ride with KYB Gas adjust and Z-71 springs - ride is too high

It's currently riding on Moog 81069 springs. They're specified as the Z-71 option springs. The springs I took off (when I removed the air shocks) had Moog 81871 stickers on them. I'm hoping someone knows if those are the soft ones or the "middle" option between "needs help" and "heavy duty".

Replaced Z55 Air ride with KYB Gas adjust and Z-71 springs - ride is too high

Anyone have experience running on non-air ride shocks with the original equipment Z55 springs? Is it too soft?

    Transmission rebuild - ongoing issues!

Ok Ron! Here goes: I took it in to get it checked out and originally was just asking them to check the cooler/lines because it ran up to 215 a couple times (before the Tucson summer heat hit!) I explained the other below symptoms to the shop owner when dropping it off. Issues prior to...

Replaced Z55 Air ride with KYB Gas adjust and Z-71 springs - ride is too high

I removed the Z55 air ride shocks in the back and replaced with the Z71 springs and KYB Gas Adjust shocks. I unplugged the battery and removed the fuse for the air ride. I then reconnected the battery...no messages in DIC! Since the air ride shocks were completely blown the ride now feels...

    Transmission rebuild - ongoing issues!

So I had taken the 04 XL Denali with 210K miles in to the local transmission shop for a full rebuild. They had it for over a week and when I picked it up it seemed to have resolved so many issues (with idling in gear, reversing up a hill, staying locked on the freeway over 60MPH). There was a...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Thanks Mark! Baby Girl! It's number 6 for us (hence the huge vehicle with lots of seats). We'll be balanced: 3 boys and 3 girls.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I'm definitely interested in that. I was already considering a Tru Cool 40K...I just want to see what's going on first. It always ran cool (180 or under) the last 2 summers and we haven't even hit 100 yet this year. I am concerned to see the transmission gauge hitting 215 already. I have a...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I've been working on my other cars a lot lately, but I finally got to give my Denali some much needed attention. I fixed the efan wiring (I think) and replaced the accelerator pedal sensor to resolve the P0220 code. Also replaced the rear shocks with the KYB shocks recommended here on the...

    Faded Denali Wheel Center Caps

I just re-did my Denali center caps over the weekend. The aircraft paint stripper was awesome. The caps look great, but I still need to do a final polish and then clear coat them so no pics yet.

Flare or surge going in or out of Park and Neutral

Thanks Mark! (I'm a big fan of the Beast and watch your posts.) I am inclined to think something is blocked off like you say. I found out yesterday that the truck doesn't want to back up the driveway. Had to floor it to get it to move up at all in reverse. I didn't change the fluid. I...

Flare or surge going in or out of Park and Neutral

Ok. Don't know why but a vacuum leak hadn't occurred to me. I'll go a hunting as soon as I'm done with work and dinner!

Flare or surge going in or out of Park and Neutral

The flair is different from how this vehicle ran up to a couple weeks ago. Also, my 2WD 5.3 05 Yukon XL never did this. Something is different/failing or in need of maintenance. When slowing down the change from 2nd to 1st is a pretty noticeable bump...but not quite a jerk. Maybe this is...

Flare or surge going in or out of Park and Neutral

Having an interesting problem with the Denali. When I sit at a light in D, the RPMs look ok but the truck is trying to go. It seems to settle to a stop Ok at first, but then the longer I sit, the harder it seems to try to move forward. Also, when coming to a stop it has a surge or flare when...
