    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

How do I go about distinguishing what a Denali can haul?

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

My 3/4 ton doesn’t even notice the trailer if I empty the back of the truck (I use the truck for work and will sometimes leave all of my equipment in it which weighs roughly 700 pounds total). I’ve hauled 12k pound trailers from Chicago to St. Louis a couple times with the 3/4 ton. It does...

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

I have to keep in mind that my primary tow vehicle is a 2019 3/4 ton crew cab Chevy with a 6.0. I’ll be sparingly towing with the Tahoe/Yukon/what have you.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

Would a Suburban be sufficient or are they mostly 5.3 equipped?

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

Hmm... I thought I was set. I can’t lower the weight. Empty and dry, my camper is about 5500 pounds.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

It’s safe to say that’s for the 2 speed transfer case Tahoe’s if they’re 4WD, right? I believe my 2010 I had a few years back was a single speed case.

Didn’t realize it was an XL. Hmm... that isn’t going to fit in my garage. It is nice with the extra space though.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

Good looking out. My dad grew up in Oak Lawn, where that’s supposedly located. I’ll have to check that out. It’s substantially less than I was thinking about spending and looks great! This should be good to haul around my 6000 pound camper when I’m not using my 3/4 ton truck, right?

Good call. I’ll widen my search area and hopefully be able to find something decent at a reasonable price.

Awesome. Thank you guys for the help. Now I’m on the lookout for a K5L Tahoe in Chicagoland.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

It makes sense. The Denalis are AWD. My guess would be it has something to do with that. So as long as I find a 5.3 with the K5L RPO, I should have 8200 pounds of towing capacity. I’d imagine any K5L equipped vehicle would also have 3.42s probably automatically.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

Would I have to find a 6.2 Tahoe to get the 8200 pound towing capacity? I’d imagine it would be easier to find a Yukon Denali with that motor but I bet prices are higher for them.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

No particular reason I guess for the lack of 2009s. I can definitely add them to my search knowing they’re also 6 speeds. What differentiates the two tow ratings for 4x4s with 3.42s? Is it the K5L code?

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

So basically any 2009 or newer, I’ll be looking for 3.42s? What about the tow package? Any info on that RPO? I appreciate the quick responses here.

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

Which gears did GMT900s have? I was under the impression 3.08s or 3.42s. If I could get a stock one with 3.73s or even 4.10s, that would be great. Would I have better luck looking at a Z71 for a lower ratio?

    Towing Capacities and Gear Ratios

I'm looking at a handful of Tahoes, mostly from around 2010 to 2014 because of pricing. I'm buying it to use it as a daily driver but to also use it to haul my camper on occasion. I have a 27' bumper pull that tips the scale at roughly 6000 pounds. I'm curious what gear ratios were available and...

    New from Chicagoland

Well guys, the Tahoe is gone. I traded it on Saturday for a brand new Jeep JKU. It was a short lived vehicle. I appreciate the help you've given me in my short stay here.

    Steering wheel trim

Awesome. Maybe I'll give it to my 2 year old. She doesn't have a sticker left on any of her toys... I don't have the patience for that.

    Steering wheel trim

Let's revive an old thread here... Anyone ever remove the stock ones, peel all the finish off, then re-coat it with something else? That's my plan. I'm just wondering because I want to find out the easiest way to peel it off. It seems like it's very poorly applied plastidip the way it peels in...

I'll maybe get some pics tonight after I get home from work. I've been meaning to get some of it, but just haven't had the time yet.

    Enhancing towing capabilities

Could the computer be programmed for 3.73s? I agree with the "do it once, do it right" mentality. As far as my towing frequency, I'll tow maybe once a month from maybe April through October. I doubt I'll wheel my Jeep more frequently than that. Work doesn't allow for that much free time.

    Enhancing towing capabilities

So I got a GU4. That's definitely a 3.08. Now, I'd imagine if I add a trans cooler and use a weight distributing hitch, I should be okay in tow/haul mode to trailer my Jeep. I'd say I'd experience power loss equal to that of someone putting larger, heavier wheels on without regearing. I'm going...

    Enhancing towing capabilities

Oddly, my dealer provided build sheet shows a towing package. It also has a factory hitch with a 7 pin wiring connector. I believe it may have even said something about HD cooling, however, I do not have a trans cooler.
