Hello, I know about black bear but are there any out of the box tuners that are worth the money and will disable dod or afm? Any one brand better than another for this?
I am not worried about voiding warranty as mine just ran out. This is for a 2019 tahoe 5.3
Thanks in advance
Hi all, my cel came back on so I got the code read. I don't have a gas cap so it isn't that. Several things are listed. Before we begin I do have a upr catch system installed. I'm not seeing any issues other than a slight mileage drop and oil vapors smell in the cabin.
Where should I look?
Evap...
Just an update on this, I was able to resolve the issue. I tried 2 cans of injector cleaner to 1 tank of gas, the valve cleaning solution you spray into the intake manifold, tb cleaner, neither worked. It progressively got worse and worse over time. It was really bad and would shudder the entire...
Thanks, Yep I've checked several times. I interrupted the valley pcv line. It runs from the pcv valve under the throttle body to the drivers side intake manifold. It is the main can location in the video. Not the wot lines on the secondary can That come from the valve covers on my engine
This was really helpful at explaining exactly what is going on. Thank you for posting it. Now that I see how it works I'm fine leaving it this way. The only thing I might consider is a bigger diameter hose. It feels like it's lagging and I constantly have to stay on the throttle but maybe that's...
Ok, I had some free time today while working on another vehicle so I did some digging. Hopefully these details will help anyone else with this engine. It is not setup like the typical tahoe 5.3. Why? I have no idea but we bought it from a chevrolet dealership used. I will be documenting all of...
This video is for an 18 but it's set up exactly like mine. The pcv valve is under-ish the throttle body and the clean side is on the drivers side intake manifold.
Note the 2 lines going into his air intake coming off his valve covers.
Mine isn't set up like that as far as I can tell.
Both valve covers have ports that vent directly into the air intake.
The only line that went into the intake manifold was the one that was near the throttle body. It actually looks more like a pcv valve.
What year is yours?
Do you have pics of...
Yes, there was a teenie tiny amount of oil but I think it is more from venting than anything. They appear to be direct ports into the valve cover and not related to the pcv valve. Maybe these are some sort of secondary vent in case the pcv were to take a dump??? Idk.
The pcv valve is located just below the throttle body on the right. That line vents into the side of the intake. The metal ports on the valve covers appear to just be vents of some kind. Here is a picture locating the valve that I found online
I ran the line from the pcv to the top of the can...
I think so. Thanks for checking. It drives a bit different and I'm getting a suffer smell now but I did use some gdi cleaner also so it could be that. From what I can tell it's routed correctly and when I open the valve on the drain air comes out.
I found the pcv valve located under an to the right of the throttle body. Not in the valve cover like the directions stated. I ran the hose without the check valve from there to the top of the can. The clean side with check valve I ran from the side of the can to the intake.
Both valve covers...
I'm clearly missing something in the instructions but the port on my intake leads under my throttle body to a port on the front of the engine.
The instructions say to use the port on the driver's side valve cover to vent into the dirty side of the can...my vehicle has ports on both valve...
Hello all, I've been looking at catch cans for our 2019 5.3. It looks like the upr is $200 for my model and the jlt is 159. Is there a significant difference between the 2? Are there any good cheaper options out there yet? Thanks in advance.
I read up on this after finding your thread. I really like the idea behind this with the direct injection setup.
How do you use it? Do you disconnect the air intake plumbing and spray directly into the TB while it's running?
Hello all, I have a few questions so I figured I'd ask all in one shot.
My first issue is the rough idle. The truck feels like it has an irregular heartbeat at idle if you can relate to that. It doesn't happen frequently enough that the tach shoes it bit it feels like an intermittent misfire...
Yes I agree, it could have just been my housings. I've seen where there are some large variations in these. Both are a HUGE improvement over stock halogens.
Glad you found out what they were. Unfortunately I can't help much from here but you can check the retrofit source. They have alot of hid components too.
The factory hid system has a ballast on top of the housing. It might be slightly off to the side but it's near the top and it's silver.
DS3 is the bulb size on 2019 so I'd figure the rest of this generation are the same.
You can also pull the dust cap on the driver's side very easily and look...
Here is a pic of the vleds micro extreme 6000k h11 in a 2019 tahoe halogen projector housing.
They aren't intense as a hid bulb but I wanted plug and play. These fit the bill nicely and were more consistent then the morimoro 2 stroke 3.0.
