    Ground Strap under the hood

Corrosion on those ground straps, plus others, is pretty common. It seems like '90's to early 2000's GM SUV's and trucks end up having broken ground straps, which can cause electrical gremlins in the vehicle. It is so easy to clean up the studs and replace the straps that there is no reason...

    Denali AWD driving off road.

I tend to agree with you, like having the option of choosing the mode I'm using at a particular time. I've always thought that going to non-switchable AWD was a concession they made to a big part of their customer base who doesn't want to know about 4WD/AWD, doesn't want to push any buttons...

So happy, but check this mpg out

Thanks .... and I'm not a frequent enough poster here to know the inside story, so sorry if I dredged something up.

So happy, but check this mpg out

I'd guess your oil blend adds 00.00 mpg. Are you driving 45 mph on flat ground for that 3,000 miles? What vehicle and engine?

So happy, but check this mpg out

Mark, did you replace the air with inside air or outside? If you put pure outside air in your tires I think you'll get another .1 mpg. :)

    Longest time idling?

As mentioned above by someone, these aren't carbed 350's, the fuel/air is so well managed that you can idle indefinitely without harming the engine. No way it will overheat if the cooling system is in good shape. As for the tranny fluid heating up, I won't argue with an expert on...

    New guy rant in...3...2...1

I kind of like the nn acronyms, keeps it different from any other vehicle you might talk about.

What do you tow??? Lets see it! Travel Trailer and Toy Hauler

I tow a few boats, heaviest is maybe 4,500 lbs. with trailer. Tows it easily. I don't have a brake controller in the Tahoe but have had good luck with Tekonsha. Main thing with brake controllers is to spend the time to dial in the sensitivity and engagement, get it so the trailer is braking...

    Delete AFM?

Michael, I agree it's a waste of money and way too much complexity for the small gains in mpg. But, GM I'm sure needed the gain for fleet mileage limits and so we are stuck with it. As for offering a setting or free disable, that would put them in the category of VW where they test the vehicle...

    Delete AFM?

How do you like the performance gain? Major difference, or not so much?

    Delete AFM?

On my 2010 I run at lower than highway speeds in manual mode. In manual, in any gear but 6th, the AFM won't kick in. So under 50-55 or so I run in 5th, no AFM switching on and off. Still kicks in in 6th gear though ....

Recovery Hooks - what to use

For the front recovery hooks on my 2010 Tahoe, what do people use to connect to them? If it's a locking ring it has to be pretty large to fit over those beefy hooks. Curious what the best way to attach to them is.

Changing wheels from 20 to 17 for ride.

On the highway, you'll feel no difference, literally would never be able to guess which were on if you were tested on it. On rough roads the 17's will ride a bit softer, also tow a bit better, but the 20's will handle a bit better. All in all not much real world difference. Since those...

    Torque management question

Thanks for following up Jeff. Nice boat! I tow a 21' ski boat with my Tahoe, I figure 4,500 lbs. total, and it pulls it easily. Your boat is obviously quite a bit heavier at 6,000 lbs. total, so I can see the 6.2 doing the job for you better, though still would have expected the Avalanche to...

    Torque management question

Wow, this thread came back after 16 months of silence! I'm curious how it worked out for the OP, that problem wasn't some stock torque management issue, it was a problem that had to be diagnosed and fixed. I see that Mike of MJ Engineering stayed active here, but Naomi disappeared not long...

    2007 Suburban 8 MPG HWY??!!

How many miles did you run in the 2 months between seeing oil level full and then a quart down? Yes, a tune will help, but I'm still not understanding why you get 8 mpg with stock. So your shop just said add seafoam, did they do any diagnostics? Have you changed air filter, cleaned MAF and TB...

    2007 Suburban 8 MPG HWY??!!

I would expect you to be getting 12-13 mpg on the highway. It depends on what speed, if you are driving 75-80 all the time I could see you getting down to 10-11. Definitely try a tuneup.

Highest MPG non Hybrid 09 and newer Tahoe..

Joshua, what year and model do you have? Mid 20's can't happen at 70 mph, I'd say best you can expect would be 19-20, maybe I'm wrong and you can get 22 but I doubt it.

07 Yukon Denali AWD in snow?

I'm not familiar with the Denali, what 4WD control it has in it. Is it a rotary selector with 2Hi, Auto, 4Hi, 4Lo? Or is it just full time AWD? If a selector, choose 4Hi instead of Auto in a situation like that, then the axles are forced to turn at the same rate and might get those fronts...

07 Yukon Denali AWD in snow?

First, switch traction control off so you have full engine control. Then, you say one rear tire was spinning. You should spin one front, if nothing up front is spinning you've got a problem. In the back you should be able to spin 2 with posi. You should be able to drive through 8-10" of snow...

Highest MPG non Hybrid 09 and newer Tahoe..

Does the Sierra have the same 3.43 rear end as the Tahoe/Yukon? And Socaltahoe, is that correct about a 3.55 rear? Not 3.73?

Wow, a lot going on in that system! I guess when I drive home tonight I'll have a bit more appreciation for that smooth ride!

    Differences between 1500 and 2500

I'm pretty sure the Yukon 1500/2500 are the same width. At least I know the late '90's ones were (Suburbans).
