GM to stop sharing data with LexisNexis and insurers

2001 Yukon XL SLT 5.3** I installed an aftermarket sub, amp and head unit. Issues with audio no

Expanding on my earlier "fuzzy" post, there is a pink wire in the original harness that powers the factory amp. This seems to get excluded from the aftermarket wiring harnesses, it needs to get 12v. That's what I was referring to. One suggestion was to run the remote turn on from the new stereo...

2001 Yukon XL SLT 5.3** I installed an aftermarket sub, amp and head unit. Issues with audio no

Let me apologize in advance for the fuzziness of this answer, my hope is that maybe it will point you in the right direction in your search. I have a 2001 Yukon XL 5.3. I've had it for most of but not all of its life. Not too long after I got it, I replaced the factory stereo with an aftermarket...

90K miles on original tires. Any one using Michelins Cross Climate2 tires?

I just bought a used Silverado with Michelin Agilis Cross Climate tires on it. The previous owner said he would not buy them again only because he only got 25K miles out of them before the tread was worn down to "probably should replace soon" levels. He drove mostly highway too. The websites...

    Strengthening rear suspension for towing

I think a set of AirLift1000 air bags inside the rear springs would do the trick. That's what I did on my 01 Yukon XL and it made a world of difference for towing. For background, I cheaped out when my stock autoride air suspension crapped out like they do. I put on those same coil assist shocks...

    ABS/ Brake light Question

Not en expert here by any stretch, but I will add my vote to the solder problem inside the ABS module. Both lights on, intermittent. I'd be surprised if you weren't also experiencing ABS kicking in at very low speeds when you're almost stopped (ironically preventing you from stopping completely...

    AC blows warm when stopped

I agree that suspect #1 is the fan clutch, but another cheap and easy one is the tensioner pulley. If its spring is weakening, it's possible that it's slipping at lower rpms. A compressor that is in the early stages of failure can really wear on those things too.

    100k front pads

I have a 2001 Yukon XL. Bought it with 55K many years ago, probably 2008? It now has about 205K on it. I have never "needed" to put front pads on it. One time I did because I had bought them, went to put them on and realized the pads already on there were like new. So I put the box on the shelf...

    Auto braking being ridiculous

Maybe it's the racecar driver in me, but I don't want my car to do anything I didn't command it to do. If I'm in a collision avoidance situation and my split second reaction is to mash the gas, I sure don't want my car slamming on the brakes at the same time! I understand there are different...

Do you get what you pay for in Tires

Count me in on the Michelin fan club. I own 4 cars at the moment, plus I have six adult kids and all their cars coming to me for advice. I've bought and used up pretty much every brand of tire over the past 40+ years. I will tell you, I am a cheap bastard, if there's money to be saved, I will...

2021 Yukon XL At4 Dead before leaving Dealer Lot

I watched a report about this maybe a month ago. They interviewed the CEO of the only chipmaker in the US. He said to add that capacity would cost billions and they still don't have the technology to do what the Taiwanese do. Their dominance of this technology is what makes them a target for a...

2021 Yukon XL At4 Dead before leaving Dealer Lot

I drive past Kentucky Speedway occasionally and can confirm that the fields surrounding it are packed FULL of THOUSANDS of new Ford pickup trucks waiting for chips. I've thought the same thing, would I want a vehicle that sat in a farm field for six months? This chip thing is really throwing...

What should i do about oil leak

Since you're in Cincinnati, maybe try Tater's Kenridge Auto Repair on Kenwood Rd in Blue Ash. He's a straight shooter and he's done work on my Yukon and my buddy's Suburban that we didn't feel like doing ourselves, with good results.

    Confusing coolant leak

My 2001 Yukon XL started tripping the Low Coolant warning last year. I didn't see any obvious leaks or puddles so my fear was that it was a head gasket. Long story short, I pulled the water pump and found the gaskets between it and the block had deteriorated. Replaced the water pump and gaskets...

    Bad Timken Hub Asembly?

Summit is a top notch place. I used to buy racing stuff from them all the time with no issues.

    Coolant lake hours later

I just replaced the water pump on my 2001 5.3. Turns out my leak wasn't exactly the water pump, but the gaskets between it and the block. Still, not a difficult or expensive repair overall.

    Difference in Michelin tires?

I finally wore out my Costco Michelins last fall (actually more of dry rot concerns from age than worn tread.) If memory serves, they were X LT2 A/S. They were great, 100% would buy again, but I'm no longer a Costco member so I got Defenders from Discount Tire. If there's a difference, I can't...

Anyone have rodent issues with their Tahoe?

I have a 2001 Yukun XL. Mice got under the fusebox in the engine bay and gnawed through about 7 wires, causing severe problems with the transmission and the temperature display on the rearview mirror. The good news is that soldering the wires resolved all the issues, and the fuse box is not...

    Air ride or bypass

I did the conversion to conventional both front and rear because at the time money was super tight. Maybe I'm a Neanderthal or they were already so worn out when I got the truck, but honestly I couldn't tell any difference. As others have mentioned, you will need the resistors to fool the system...

AC not blowing cold at idle

Start simple. Check the tensioner on the ac belt. I've had two now that lost tension. There was still enough that it worked decent at highway speeds but at idle it was hot. It's a $30 part and not super difficult, if that's the culprit. Otherwise, yeah the fan clutch would be my next target...

    Junkyard shopping just for fun

Actually I told her about my realization as soon as I got home. She appreciated the validation. And then she said, hey next time you're down there, see if you can find this and this and this for my car!

    Junkyard shopping just for fun

I used to make fun of my wife because she liked going to flea markets. To me, it was a waste of a morning walking around looking at tables full of junk. Then one day, I was on one of my trips to the junkyard looking for a part I needed. I had some extra time that day, so I was walking around...

    Advice on 2001 Suburban

Keep a close eye on the brake lines. 2001 is of the vintage where they all rusted out. Favorable climate and garaging can delay it but it's still going to happen, pretty much guaranteed unless the guy already took care of it, which is also a good possibility. To me, that's the big one. The rest...

    E brake noise

Well yeah, unless your abs control module does that thing where the solders go bad so you pull the fuse because who needs abs anyway, causing the red brake light to be on all the time so you don't know that it lost all its fluid... Probably no one on here should take my advice except for what...
