    2000 Suburban 5.3 Engine Knocking

For 1000 dollars it’s actually a decent deal even with an engine knock. And you don’t think it is a knock. unless you need the truck immediately when you purchase it, I would roll the dice and just get it. Btw mine has some pretty bad piston slap too, but it only lasts about 1-2 min and is...

Steering box leaking - what's the fix?

Hi all, I have a 2003 XL and it appears to be peeing power steering fluid out of the top of the box, just forward of the lines (no it's not leaking out of the lines). Appears to be right out the top of the box where the worm gear can be adjusted. Is there an easy fix for this without removing...

Ceramic pieces 0f plug in cylwnder

That sucks that they messed up, but good they are fixing it. I would think they are going to remove the engine to do this job. If they are you should think about any other items you want to knock out with the engine out of the truck and the heads and oil pan off. New o ring on the oil pump...

    Slow 1-2 and 2-3 shift?

Thanks for the advice. Pretty cool that a guy of your skill level is offering advice on this forum. Any chance you think I could just start with the servo and see how it performs?

    Slow 1-2 and 2-3 shift?

Hi all, Under light throttle conditions, I notice my 03 xl will have a somewhat sloppy, slow shift from 1-2 and 2-3. It feels like it decides to shift, does a partial engagement, and then drops into gear maybe a half a second to a second later. Almost like it shifts twice. Grab and then...

What do I do with my 2003 Z71 Suburban?

I would keep it for dirty work. Towing, hauling, spare car for when people come into town. The cost to buy somebody else’s ‘03 and get it to the condition and reliability of the one you already own is way more than 3k. It’s worth more than you could sell it for. If you want to decommission...

    Rear differential and Fel-Pro gasket

I always have used a bit of rtv on mind even with the gasket. Never had one leak

    Got PO300 code

Not entirely sure because when it happened I limped it to a safe spot and got it fixed. Didn’t wait for it to come back

    Got PO300 code

For what it’s with my 2003 had the same code and issue. Ended up being a failed intake gasket. They get old and harden, then lean air causing a leak condition

04 Yukon XL burning aprox 1 qt per 1000 miles...no apparent leaks

Pull the plugs and look at them. Do a compression/leak down test. That will give you answers. The pcv is 3 dollars just replace it no matter what.

    2003 Yukon General Maintenance

I posted a similar thread a while back maybe it will help: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/so-you-want-to-buy-an-old-tahoe-yukon.141135/

Oil pressure Sending unit - best aftermarket supplier?

HI all, I replaced my oil pressure sending unit probably 1000 miles ago. Today I noticed it was absolutely pissing oil out the bottom of the truck. Luckly I caught it before it pumped it all out. We're talking a pancake circle in 10 seconds of running. Anybody have an idea who makes the...

    Tail Dragging

It’s like a mix between a lifted truck and a low rider. Maybe sometimes it identifies as lifted, other times as low?

    Brake controller wiring?

Hey guys I have an 03 Yukon xl base model. 5.3 4x4. I am looking into installing a trailer hitch. I noticed a 4 wire setup coiled up in the frame rail, which is a good start. I wonder for a brake controller if there is some pre-existing wiring or if it has to be started from the battery...

03 suburban stuck in 4wd auto

Mine is the exact same truck as yours. It was the encoder ring. If you don’t want to dig it out and aren’t sure the motor is good, you could replace the whole motor. Ring is about 20 bucks, the motor can be gotten for 80-100 on amazon

    Change your power steering fluid!

Hey all, Word of advice, change that power steering fluid. My power steering cooler failed, so I replaced it. Decided to flush the power steering system while I was at it. Extracted the fluid that was left in the reservoir and put some fresh in, then pulled it out again. It was so brown and...

    Safely long-haul towing with a 2006 Z71 Tahoe

if you don’t have a trans cooler install one as others have suggested. Obd2 scanner can read your trans temp from the internal sensor. May be worth the 15-20 bucks to get one. Mind works great! Brakes. I would give them a once over.

    Awesome! Works perfectly. Thank you.

    Trans Temp from OBD?

Thanks man. I actually looked through the optional PID's and it looks like the only one is "trans temp, method 2" I added it and it collects no data. Is there another one I should try? Maybe I got the wrong one somehow.

    Trans Temp from OBD?

Hi all, I have a remote, bluetooth OBD scanner that I use on my '03 Yukon. It is apparently an ELM327 module, and I have several apps I use with it: Torque, AlfaOBD (demo) and CHevroSys. I wonder, is there a way for me to pull in the trans temp from one of these programs? I really don't...

Things to repair while engine is out.

Trans lines tend to leak on those at the flex fitting. Far easier to replace with the motor out. Same goes for any repairs for power steering lines, steering box, idler arm etc. use ARP bolts on the exhaust manifolds. Replace intake and lifter valley gaskets.

So you want to buy an old Tahoe/Yukon?

You're not wrong there. I think if you're getting into some guy's average daily driver that probably needs a maintenance work up, you can expect to budget 5-600 bucks in getting things tightened up and solid. Will be more to get it where I have gotten it, but now I have a really solid truck to...

So you want to buy an old Tahoe/Yukon?

Hey guys, About 3 months ago, I bought a 2003 Yukon XL to use as a 3rd vehicle. Over the course of those couple months, I have driven it regularly to work the bugs out. I thought I would post my list of findings so the next guys could have an idea what to look out for. One note: this truck...

    0300 while driving today

Wanted to close the loop for everybody here: it was the intake manifold gasket that failed. Lean fuel reads. New gaskets and it’s running great. Hate paying for work but it wasn’t too bad and fixed my issue. I think on these older higher mileage trucks the intake manifold gasket should...

    0300 while driving today

Well I ended up dropping it at a mechanic because I was actuall driving it on a work trip 250 miles away when it went bad on me. Couldn’t have had an issue the 100 times I was driving it within limping distance of home! Anyway, the mechanic called today and said he thinks it needs intake...
