On my 16 Denali XL I used a Range AFM disabler from day one until the warranty ran out…then sold it and bought a Diablo Intune I3 to disable the AFM and tweak the ECM & TCM tunes - couldn’t be more happy! With the 89 octane tune with tweaked throttle response (maxed at 20%) and firm shift tune...
If you go to https://www.customwheeloffset.com and put in your vehicle or search their site for fitment….but better yet you can see their ‘customer builds’ where people have installed oversized wheels/tires and submitted pictures along with details of any suspension mods / thrumming needed if...
Before trying any ‘home brew’ flush or additive to the oil I would use the new Valvoline Restore & Protect oil for 3-4 oil changes. Do some investigating, but it’s got a ton of real world results cleaning up the internals of the engine…and I’m on my 4th oil change with it and the engine seems...
I’m betting a trans cooler port in the radiator still had a plastic cover or plug in the new radiator that wasn’t removed….which could be why your line popped off as well….it built up pressure and blew off. My first thought would be to check trans cooler fittings and make sure there is no...
I have a 16 Denali XL that came with factory 22’s and I hung on to them until the 100K mile mark and then switched them out for a set of 20’s w 275/60/20’s and the improvement in ride was unbelievable!! I’d go as far as to say the increased sidewall was more of an improvement than when I...
I installed the same struts last fall and love the ride….and they have seemed to get ‘softer’ the more miles I put on them. Immediately after the install my front was raised as well…almost leveled the front with the rear. It took a few thousand miles but the springs eventually ‘settled’ and...
I recently put passive Arnott struts and shocks all the way around my 16 Denali XL…the original front struts had locked up….the Arnotts are INCREDIBLE in terms of ride and seem to get better as they get a few more miles on them (likely the springs setting in). I highly recommend the Arnotts to...
I had a similar situation on my 16 Denali XL with the 6.2….one oil change at just over 100K miles I tried some Amsoil Signature Series 0W-20 and after about 1,200 miles I got the low oil warning. Never before had I got this warning and it concerned me. I topped it off - took about 2.5qts...
For your original issue…it could be several things…with that many miles the very first thing I would do is clean your throttle body. I cleaned mine at 140K miles and I could not believe the improvement it made!…smoothed out the idle and a slight stumble off idle. Many videos on YouTube...
RANGE Technology AFM Disabler - plugs into OBD port - Chevy/GMC.
SOLD.
I bought this new a few years ago for my Denali. Works great! I sent it in to RANGE Technology for a ‘update’ early last year (but I believe they just switched mine out with a newer/updated one). I’ve since bought a...
I finally got around to installing this part today and got rid of the vacuum pump. Brakes (brake booster) seems to work a bit better with the vacuum source switched to manifold vacuum.
As people have mentioned…you can do it yourself for minimal expense using one of the GDI cleaners. I would do that then HIGHLY recommend installing a catch can- especially at your low mileage. This will help a lot down the road to minimize carbon buildup on the valves etc.
I ran across this recently while searching for options for a vacuum source when deleting the vacuum pump and thought I’d share. Pretty good idea/product - allows you to keep your catch can vacuum port without adding a TB spacer tapped with a port…

Finally bought an Airaid spacer!…have the fitting and tap ready…..one last question if you don’t mind…where on the spacer did you drill/tap for the hose fitting? On the right side as your looking at it?
PERFECT! Thanks so much! One other question….i know the hose would be a 3/8” ID vacuum rated hose…so the male end for the hose would be 3/8…what size did you tap the spacer for? 1/8 NPT or 1/4 NPT? I guess either would work assuming the spacer is thick enough to allow it…but is a 1/8” NPT...
Could
you provide a link to the throttle body spacer you bought for this? I’d like to do the same but anything I’m finding that’s for these isn’t thick enough to drill/tap for a connection.
I did the exact same thing last fall at about the same mileage - never cleaned it prior. I couldn’t believe how much smoother it ran and the throttle response that it picked back up! It’s now on my routine maintenance rotation.
All great advice above. As mentioned if I had bought a used vehicle I would absolutely go through and replace all the fluids..drop the trans pan and do a fluid/filter replacement not just a fluid flush/replace like the dealers do. And absolutely disable the AFM either via a plug in device like...
DONT DO IT!….Just my opinion but I recently went from factory 6 spoke 22’s that came in my 16 Denali XL to factory takeoff 20’s from a 16 Denali crew cab truck w the same size tire you have now. Literally the overall height & width are within ~1/4” but gained 1” of sidewall w the 20’s and the...
Make sure you take the sway bar end links off….this allows the lower A arms to drop as much as possible. However, I did still need someone to stand on a long piece of pipe wedged in to get my driver side lower A arm down just enough to get the strut in place.
I recently dropped the pan on my 2016 Denali XL with the 8L90 at 145K miles….it previously had the fluid flush/replace with the updated fluid via the dealer under my extended warranty at ~70K…so pan/filter had not previously been replaced….my magnets at 145K did not have nearly that much stuff...
Mountie - that’s a helluva idea! lol.
In reality it sounds like you’re mechanically inclined so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal for you. I’ve replaced mine twice…both almost exactly at the 3.5-4 year mark. Two braces, the distribution block on top, and as people have said…about the only...
I just replaced all 4 corners on my 16 Denali XL with passive Arnotts and very happy with the ride…much improved over the magneride…mine had also gotten so bad they had basically locked up.
