Well.. a brand new yukon.. and that oil and engine has 25 hrs on it… if you look at the picture you can see quite a bit of metal out of the sump.. really not happy a new motor looks that way.
As far as this motor goes… i do not think cleanless is where it was when i had an ‘18 5.3 during...
Well.. i was careful.. however.. below is the first 25 hr drain. Quite a bit in there.. not really happy. I have built a few engines.. you must be clean.. otherwise you are wasting time and effort.
The second drain at 50 hrs.. was what i expected. Decent. I think everybody needs to get a quick...
I will say… the 5.3 has been around a while.. my guess is that clean-up of the blocks is now poor.. and the tooling to do the block/heads has seen better days. First figure is the 5.3 filter and what magnetic contents there are.. figure two is the first drain of my ‘24 yukon.. right block is the...

I recommend changing oil and filter at 25 hrs or so on the engine. You can see what drained out on my first oil change at 25 hrs… nothing better than a pic to look at.. zoom up on it and you can what came out…
I just bought ‘24 yukon and a ‘25 sierra.. the yukon has a 5.3 and i changed oil at 25 hrs… the same thing on the sierra with a 3.0l
All things being equal.. maybe the tooling on the 5.3 is about used up? Left pic is the 5.3 with a magnet run over the filter… right side is the 3.0. The duramax...
I am not a oil burner fan.. each one i have in the past has always had some problem.. that was enough for me. However.. things have changed… below are two magnets that i have used to test my 5.3 in my 24 yukon and my 3.0 in a ‘25 SLT gmc truck.. also.. the oil drain bucket i used on the 5.3 was...
I also did Todd for a ‘24 yukon… i think it was $1450 for 72/72.. i just wanted a little more for the 5.3 in it.. i did $250 deductable.. an engine and tranny are my main concerns..
I just traded my ‘22 lariat in on a slt with a 3.0…. I could get 24 mpg with the ford… i started with coolant leaks on the eco… and just had enough. Coast is clear on the 3.0…
I have a 2024 yukon with a 5.3… but i did just get a duramax 2025 slt… i have had many oil burners.. not really a fan. However.. i have changed my mind… if you get one that does most of what you want, i would. They great driving and do very well mpg.

I have a ‘24 with a 5.3 which i did due to lots of problems with the 6.2. I have had four 5.3s and never had any problem with them.. i also have a ‘25 sierra with a 3 liter in it. I think it is noisy like most diesels are and gets 28 mpg. I think the first version with cast al pistons is much...
I just bought a ‘24 yukon. I did a 72/72 warranty for $1472, $250 deduct.. i am 63.. but i do not want a crash taking me out.. yukons are pretty safe. Little cars.. none of my wives emergency room workers are in small cars. They usually do suburbans..
This is the warranty i found to be the best... prices are there if you look at it.. i did a 72/72.. 250 deductable.. i usually trade every three or four years.. but i went out a bit.. just to make sure i had some coverage.. i would not be afraid to replace an engine.. i am thinking.. 89 octane...
I just did a warranty on mine to 72/72. $1472 with 250 deduct.. gmep.. i have been trading cars a lot.. but.. these gm v8s are not nearly what they were. Bummer.
Reading all this.. if clearances are a problem on pistons… it seems to me that a 207 deg was what 2018 l83 had… is that still what it is on the 2024s? I know you get down south.. the gm cooling is weak..
The pressure we see on the dash is after the oil filter… but all the lifters and bearings are after it. It sure does look like the crankshaft front is what get oiled last… the oil pressure there is less than what you see on the dash. I imagine a plugged filter does not help either. It looks to...
Is the oil pressure sensor near pump the or at the end of the what journals and cam lifters that are oiled? I mean each journal as you go away from the is going to have less pressure..
I had an ‘05 GMC… we were moving… and it started to rain.. i was in a hurry - looked down and was doing 95 mph with a trailer loaded with move items.. i do like the 5.3… i have re-built several 350’s… not really impressed with them.. i can only say the seats in the ‘05 are a lot better than my...
Below is first oil change from ‘24 5.3… iron and aluminum in the bottom of my drain bucket… if you at it you can see it.. i think drain - a couple anyway before 1500 miles.
I still am thinking a drop in cleaning or suppliers.. of the rocker or lifters.. there is just no way you want to run that...
I don't know.. i think at least move to a 5w30 oil.. instead of the current spec. On top of this.. i think craftsmanship of the build is weaker.. somehow there is a more debris in engine earlier on. it is more than my 2018 engine.. i have a 2024 5.3 which i did first oil change at 1100 miles. i...
