If you need one I can just drop it in the mail to you. Just message me your info.
Yes, I had researched the drop but with everything else I'm doing I don't think that will get done anytime soon.
Still have to get the replacement dash in, but 2...
Removed the strut I did last weekend and installed a new bumper.. And did the remaining strut. Glad it's over with.
Best to just order new bumpers if you're going to tackle this. You can't actually see them until you take it apart.
In the words of the illustrious Ted Theodore Logan, "something strange is afoot..."
While driving, noticed the seatbelt indicator was flashing.. only.. I was wearing the seatbelt. Did a quick unbuckle-rebuckle. Still blinking. Meh, figured maybe a loose wire.
Then the speedometer went to zero...
Did half a thing today.. Pro tip.. order the travel limiting bumpers when you order the oem struts. I couldn't see it before disassembly and it was toast. Ended up having to put the old one back in as nobody had them in stock. So I get to do this one a second time. Deferred doing the other side...
Well my rim sizes aren't the same so I won't give you actual tire sizes but...
on my 2011 tahoe a tire that is 32.7" in diameter and 11.22" wide rubs very slightly on the front fender liner at full turn.
a 32.09" diameter by 11.22"w tire does not rub.
Plug your desired r20 tire size into one...
I believe a bad evap purge vent valve will give you a check engine light (at least it did on my suburban). Bad evap canister will cause a slow fill and did not throw check engine light on my tahoe.
[edited to correct valve, still threw a check engine light for me]
Yes, cleaned off the remnants of the old rubber and used medium body superglue to affix new rubber. We shall see if the new rubber lasts in the weather.
Cowl was looking too good to leave these end panels like they were. I can still buy replacements, but I'm not spending $60 each for left and right.
Tried my hand at replacing the weatherseals.. I guess we will find out if they will last exposed to the weather.
So this is the cowl and wipers after they were painted.. looks good. I stopped at 2 coats because I wanted to make sure it didn't get too glossy:
I also had to replace one of these because I broke when I took it apart (not due to negligence, they were just old and brittle):
Took a while...
Looked at the price difference for the lowers.. No sense pressing new bushings in. The ball joint itself is like $80, plus the bushings.. would save like $30 each. Not worth the hassle.
Didn't look at the uppers.
On the cowl I scrubbed with a green scuff pad and dawn dish detergent, rinsed and then wiped with an IPA solution (carpro eraser). Then sprayed.
On the wipers I scrubbed with scuff pad then sanded with 320 grit. SEM says use 400 grit, but it's what I had.
Two coats on all. I'll polish the...
Thanks, I just really wasn't sure if they looked good or bad.
I was leaning toward pressing new ones in just to try something new. Ofc it's a lot cheaper too, but I figure if it goes South I could always order new ones.
I want to to the 2" drop spindle so I'll be keeping the stock upper arms...
So the mystery of the "sounds like a clunk from the front when I back over a bump" continues...
Next thought is maybe the strut.. Looks original to me, been meaning to replace anyway...
What do y'all think about these bushings? With front wheels suspended there's no wiggle or slop, but I'm...
So a total of three hours to do the passenger side motor mount, but that includes a 30 min break after I wrestled the new mount in. Sometimes ya need to take a breather and regroup. Must less frustration. So if you went straight at it start-to-finish it's 2.5 hours.
I removed the starter and...
alternatively, you can get an independent in-seat massager from someplace like autoseatskins.com that is under the seat cover but independent of the vehicles computer. That;s probably the way I'd go.
Nice! I was looking to change mine from the light cashmere to dark cashmere but with all the other expenses I'm incurring I probably will forego the skins.
I did bookmark this (I believe also from the Seat shop as mentioned above)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTJ7WX57/
Its the seat foam. I...
Funny you should mention that....
TBH I was fine with the dash cover. However, after I bought the Tahoe I soon realized that the ambient light sensor was missing. Fallen into the abyss that is the dashboard.
Removing the cover was a fun- [read:explicative] filled adventure. On the plus side...
I would go to your local dealer and have them look up the part number by VIN. I just bought a new one for my 2011 and what was stated as fitting online was not the part number they gave me across the counter.
As noted above, any dash as old as the one you have-- if it isn't cracked already--...
To give you an idea of what I was starting with:
Emblems and trim shaved, two passes with 3D One cream (orange pad, white pad):
Also put a coat of DP GR4 on it. Still have the roof and bumpers to do, but I needed to get some heavy cut compound:
The GMC:
argh.. well i went OEM on the driver's side. From what I had researched prior to joining here/seeing that sticky, seemed everybody said that OEM was the way to go.
Oh well. This isn't a daily (in that my daily is a work truck), but I'll take every opportunity I can get to drive it!
