    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - I wanted to get your opinion. I currently use a corvette servo and Transgo 4l60E-BOOST 0.500" boost valve in every rebuild. 1. Would there be an improvement if I start using the SK4L60E shift kit? It includes modifications to both the servo and a boost valve. I was...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I agree. Customers coming back with issues can get stressful depending on their personality, and having to open up a transmission more than one is frustrating and no fun either. Thanks for the insight.

    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - I come again in search of help. I rebuilt a 2007 4L60e and everything air checked fine. The buyer reused their old torque converter and replaced the transmission cooler lines. He installed it the first time and said it was leaking from one of the cooler lines, by the...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I decided I would continue with the reassembly since the other 2 drum and pump assemblies had similar results. When I got to the point where I air checked using the test plate there was a bit of air coming through the tip of the input shaft but nowhere near as much as it was before. So I assume...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I did perform that test and there were no bubbles. I am now testing it after having rebuilt both input and reverse drums as well as the pump. I stacked both drums along with the pump, flipped the whole assembly over and did an air. Checked through the pump holes, and I can still feel air coming...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I was doing an air check with the test plate with only the valve body off. I ended up taking it all apart. When I air checked just the input drum (by blowing compressed air direcrly into the feed hiles on the input shaft), there was no air coming out of that check ball at the end of the shaft...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - I come to you again for help. I am disassembling a core. I always air check even during disassembly to see if there are any issues that can be easily determined that way. When I blow air to check the overrun clutch, it does apply, but there is air coming out the checkball...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I took a look but did not see anything out of the ordinary. Some are a little dirty, but that is about it, no cracks or anything like that. I also don't see how most of them would be in contact with fluid from inside the case, except perhaps for the one by y he servo.

    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - it dies look like JBWeld, I will give that a try before discarding the case and just keeping everything else for parts. I took apart another core and came across something I had never seen before. The guy replaced the trans because it was leaking from the smaller inspection...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

Thanks again for the explanation. I bought a pressure gauge from Amazon, but the hose is too short I think to be able to get it in the cab. I have never tried to use it. I have not been able to get in contact with the buyer. I will probably end up replacing it with another rebuilt unit. On a...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - Thanks for such a prompt reply! You are beyond awesome, hats off to you! Back to the issue, I always set the case valve body side up (with the valve body removed) and level out the back, put a few drops of transmission fluid where the check ball goes and check to see if any...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

@NickTransmissions - I come to you again hoping you can share your knowledge with another issue. I rebuilt a transmission (new clutches, steels, seals, bonded pistons, corvette servo, etc) and everything checked out during the air check with the test plate. I sold it to a guy who installed it...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

This is how I ended up resolving the issues: Transmission A - The stator shaft was worn out on the inside where the reverse drum goes. I replaced the pump and used a corvette servo (as well as new 3-4 clutch pack), and that took care of the issue. Transmission B - I ended up replacing the...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

Thanks for taking the time to send the thorough explanation. I did replace the forward drum pistons with new bonded steel/rubber pistons. I will have to check the crown of the drums for cracks. How do you accomplish the tighter than stock clearance on the 3-4 clutch pack? Do you use thicker...

    4L60e issues after rebuild

I have rebuilt about 10 of these transmissions this year as a "side hustle" of which 8 have worked successfully after rebuild. There are two that I am working on right now that I need some assistance with. When I rebuilt the first 4-5 transmissions I used the Transmission Bench rebuild tutorial...

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

I have read and watched videos that talk about adding jb weld to the area where the input shaft goes into the input drum. I have a spare drum that I did not reuse on one of the rebuilds I did before because the top part of the groove for the snap ring was gone. So I got curious and pressed out...

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

This is gold right here! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I understood most of what was said up until the valve body section. I will do some research on that and will definitely watch the videos. One of the things that has given me more trouble than I would like to acknowledge are the...

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

This last part made me laugh, in a good way. Thanks for the input. I currently have an engine (with accessories), harness, PCM that I bought this past weekend. That is what initially triggered the "weird idea". I do see the point of how complicated it might end up being to get the setup working.

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

My other thought was to buy a cheap 2000-2006 Tahoe (so it will fit in my home garage and still leave space to move around) and remove the seats and carpet, then cut a hole on the floor and firewall to be able to get easier access to the transmission from inside the vehicle and possibly...

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

Thanks for the replies. To provide some background, I have rebuilt a few other transmissions successfully in the past (Ford C6 and FMX, as well as 3 different 99-06 4L60E). I also recently purchased a 59 Chevy Apache that will need a lot of work. So I was thinking of rebuilding (full rebuild kit...

    Testing 4l60E outside vehicle

I recently bought a 5.3 with harness, accessories, PCM, and transmission off a 2006 GMC Sierra. I have seen videos on how to run an LS engine on a test stand. Assuming I run the engine on a stand, is it possible to check if the transmission shifts through all the gears without it being under a...
