Let's sift through every square inch of a 2013 Tahoe PPV

Another kill for the books. I ran into a nardo grey Durango R/T the other day on the interstate, and we had some fun. Well, I probably had more fun than him. We ran several times in a row, and it wasn't even that close. I'm not sure what the governor is set at in those Durangos, but I was just...

Well then. We had an ice storm and a tree branch fell on the Tahoe. I got pretty lucky, the damage was minor. There is a pretty nice ding in the driver side quarter panel right below the window. Then there's a long scrape that can only be seen from the right angle. In better news: I just...

    2013 Tahoe PPV Purchase

More like a dope house! The Tahoe seems like a good deal. I paid quite a bit more.

    Engine Revving in Park

This is a very concerning statement. You should not be running that low on oil on a regular basis. That's how you blow up your engine prematurely.

    Cast Iron steering knuckles

I've also been wondering about aluminum vs iron knuckle, as Rock Auto has listings for both.

I should disclose a bit more about the Fleetwood, since this is a bit of a Tahoe forum. From 1991-1996, GM produced their last body-on-frame cars. This group of vehicles, built on the B platform, was ultimately a farewell to classic muscle cars. Under the hood starting in 1994 was the...

Let's sift through every square inch of a 2013 Tahoe PPV

As requested, here are a few pics of my 95 Fleetwood Brougham project. This car is meant to be a tow rig and general comfy cruiser. I pulled the original (strong) engine out and freshened it up a bit. I added the LT4 "hot cam" along with 1.6 rockers and Edelbrock valve springs. The trans is a...

Nope, no thread for that car. However, the built trans from the wagon is now in my 95 Fleetwood. I don't remember if I've posted pics of any of my other cars in my Tahoe build thread, but I will occasionally.

Growing up doesn't have to suck

The optispark stuff is frequently discussed and rarely understood. I build my own optis, and they work great. There are a few issues that one needs to be aware of: The majority of the cheap optis on the market do not have loctite on the rotor screws. You absolutely cannot install one of these...

Growing up doesn't have to suck

Oh... Kinda like mine? Excuse the stance, I was running (free) front tires that were actually a full inch taller than the 275s in the rear. And then at the end of the day, mine does something that the Impalas can't do: One of my local friends has a Duramax and 6L90E in his Roadmaster wagon.

Yeah, the wagons had air suspension in the back for towing, and never came with a rear sway bar, strangely. Drive a police package Caprice or the almighty Impala SS, and you will "get it" as far as those cars are concerned. While I'm at it: That platform is heaven for an LS swap. They used the...

Growing up doesn't have to suck

A B-body wagon weighs about 4500 lbs and has a fully boxed frame. They all got the LT1 from the F/Y-bodies, with 260 horse and 330-335 torque. The sedans weigh about 4200, with the exception of the Fleetwood, which has an extended wheelbase and weighs closer to the wagon's 4500. They were the...

Better engine mounts... probably. Higher power; no. For one, a 94-96 Roadmaster wagon has the same amount of torque as a 2007-2014 Tahoe. The Tahoe has a few more HP in stock form, but there are some brutally fast wagons out there, and flex pipes have always been considered a "ghetto" or...

Growing up doesn't have to suck

Is there anything unique about our platform relative to other platforms that don't have a flex pipe? If I don't need a flex pipe on a Roadmaster wagon, why do I need one on a Tahoe?

Even aside from the resonator, our exhaust is constructed nicely for "natural" resonation. As far as maximizing scavenging and minimizing drone, you generally want the exhaust to get smaller from front to back. We have a nice big Y-pipe that goes into a decent 2.75" mid-pipe. Then the axle-back...

    My Project Tahoe

I feel obligated to say this: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is one of the biggest "no-nos" to combine with alcohol. It's extremely toxic to the liver. Any other pain killer would be better. My friend's dad died in his late 30s from liver failure, and the doctors said it was because he had a habit...

    limited slip diff type?

Everything lasts when you baby it. It's the stupid stuff that I care about. My dad put 400k miles on a 4L60E, but that doesn't mean anything for me.

The blue intake elbow is here, and it looks great so far. I just need to re-do the vac line that I currently have punctured into the existing rubber elbow. I suppose I just drill a hole in the aluminum tube and use a grommet or whatever. Speaking of blue... After being devastated by...

    limited slip diff type?

But they've really been using the same unit for that long? It blows my mind that they didn't upgrade or improve at all. Then again, why reinvent the wheel?

    limited slip diff type?

Can you clarify this statement? Obviously G80 doesn't refer to any specific part. That's just the RPO that tells you the vehicle doesn't have an open diff. You're saying GM has been using that same diff for decades? In what? Just for reference, the 1996 Impala SS had an Auburn "G80" that was...

I am thrilled to announce the acquisition of a new thing, as well as the beginning of a new era. The "color" era. I just bought this: www.amazon.com/dp/B00GXJILXA It will replace the current rubber elbow, which has an intentional kink that restricts flow. The current intake came from a...

Growing up doesn't have to suck

As I ponder future sway bars, one of the things I'm struggling with is the extra weight of the solid bar. Yes, you can argue that it's small potatoes on such a heavy vehicle, and that's true. I'm just still clinging to the idea of shedding weight rather than adding. It's sort of a mystery how...

Let's sift through every square inch of a 2013 Tahoe PPV

Let's see if I have finally succeeded at video. First is a video of me racing a 4th gen Camaro at the track. This was before exhaust, with just a tune and air intake mods. It seems like the engine was really suffocating at high RPM. https://1drv.ms/v/s!Atbypg4glW0KgRKUKjwKzyIB8mfr Here is a...

I can't even comprehend having a solid bar with virtually no end links. I feel like that says a lot about how beefy your rear bar is. I would expect major understeer.
