just bought a 2010 denali XL with 80K on it. Looked like a clean carfax. Truck looked and ran good. I bought from a private dealer, but previously had been sold and serviced out of GMC dealer in texas

At 70k this truck was sold as gmc certified used vehicle, from the servicing dealer out of texas and had maintenance records on carfax so I assume it is a good truck..

Been having numerous CEL and an occasional no start issue.

called the GMC dealer yesterday where the truck had been serviced and found out it was having alot of problems and was even brought in for bad engine noise at 79k after the GMC dealer bought it back. Needed a camshaft, lifters, gaskets etc.

The GMC dealer only did lifters and even had in their notes to just "make it drivable" even though camshaft was badly pitted and needed replacement and sent it to auction. Seems super shady for a GMC dealer to pull a move liek that but i guess it happens all the time. Is there any recourse for a GMC dealer knowingly sending something like this to a sale with a hidden issue?

I almost feel like the dealer is hiding something and trying to cover themselves now bc I called back and they wont really give me any info on the service records now

how big of an issue am i looking at with the camshaft. Do I fix it now or wait for it to develop an issue?

I'd take your questions as high as you can to GMC and see what they say. Otherwise, I'd start looking at a trade in and start over and get a certified one from a GM dealer that would at least have to answer for and repair warranty and power train issues. Unfortunately 10-11 Denali's with 70-80K are selling for 30-34 and trading for 26-29 so you'd prob take a loss but on the other hand how much to correct your problem.

I bought from a private dealer,

I understand your issues, but this is the biggest problem... Private dealers will do EXACTLY that. Just get it running so I can sell it and be rid of it. then the problem is on you. Due to the mileage, I'm guessing GM or GMC won't help.

this was a GMC Dealer that did the " shady repair" and then sent it on its way to an unsuspecting buyer

guessing i am pretty much going to eat this reapir. Any d=idea how much I am looking at

Ah! Good ole DOD. Typically you don't hear too many truck or SUV people talk about its failure. Nothing but a ticking time bomb from day 1. If you want to see well documented (and plentiful) cases of DOD failure, look up Pontiac G8 DOD failure. Nothing I would be concerned with if you can either:
a: get it to a performance shop for DOD delete/mild cam/tune
Or
b: save yourself the money and do it yourself or have a friend help

Mine will be getting another motor once the funds allow. Probably just a DOD delete/mild cam/tune for a while before the new engine.

Delete kit:

Then a kit like this with a stage 1 or 2 camshaft:

As for ABS codes, What is it giving you?

thanks for all your help. I appreciate it. Will have to check the other codes again

Guess i should have researched this a little more before getting the truck, had idea these trucks had so many issues

a few questions. am i causing damage by driving truck like it is now?

should I get a tuner to turn off the DOD until I can get the cam/delete installed?
