Or however you spell it. I am an electrical engineer. And I went to school for broadcast engineering many moons ago. Nice as that sounds, it makes me an audio and tv snob.

As my truck is running fine for getting to work no matter the weather here, my radio leaves a lot to be desired. Sounds kind of factory, until you plug in a phone charger, then nothing but static. So with my background, rather than trouble shoot, I'm going to rip and gut it all. So here is my plan for the next few weeks, and I promise pictures as I do it all.

First... I'm going to pull the interior, and dynomat under everything.

As I have stuff apart to do that, I will run wiring for the end game.

I want an amp to push my mids and highs to at least 50 watts each channel. ( 6 on my count, front, back, and rears.) and another amp to go 750 - 1000 wats for my lows. Don't need thump, just want range.

I believe the front and rear doors are 6.5" speakers. So they will get infinity components. But the far rears are 4x10's. So I may be putting my wife to work marketing an adaptor. ( as she is a welder)

Who has done what? What did you like? What sucked? And yes there will be pictures.

I'm running Morel Virtus 603's up front powered by an Incriminator Audio 6.4 at 4 ohm, Memphis power reference 4x10's out back for filler running on the Sony XAV602BT HU power, and an IA Death Row 12 in a custom, 2.5 cu ft ported box on an IA 10.1 at .5 ohm. Did the big 3 upgrade, swapped out the GM alt for a Mechman 370 amp, and put in a couple of XS power batteries. Sounds good and I could only be happier if I doubled the equipment :). Knowing what I know now, I would've just unplugged the rear 4x10's as they do nothing what so ever and saved the hundred bucks or so on the Memphis. The alternator and 2nd battery are kind of overkill, but will be nice if/when I decide to upgrade.

Good luck man and post lots of pics!

Hertz High Energy 6.5in 2 way component in front
Hertz energy 2 way coax in all 4 rear positioins
JL 400/4 in center console
JL 10in W3 sub in rear powered by JL 500/1 and bass control knob wired in

It helped a lot in the front to insulate the inside of the door and seal holes in door, a lot better mid from the 6.5 woofers after that. Since sound stage is in front rear's don't matter that much, still want something decent back there though.

I only went with 1 sub because I didn't want a big box back there, JL makes very very good sounding smaller subs, they won't have the highest db level in the world but the quality is amazing.

Also did a 2 78 series battery setup under the hood, just wired in parallel

What head unit are you going with?

Still digging info on the head unit. Back many moons ago I kept track of all of these things, and would know off the cuff what I wanted. Now things are crazy. The truck came with a pioneer headunit that I'm going to skip across the driveway. It works alright untill you plug in the phone charger, and due to the windshield mount, static is all you hear.

So I'm looking into a new Head unit that does pandora, bluetooth phone calls, and HD radio. I had been buying Sony's in the past, but seeing as how I plan on keeping this truck untill the doors rot off, I'm feeling spendy on my radio options.

There was a time I would only consider clarion and kenwood for SQ. Not sure if that still holds true but back in the day they had really nice gear.

I've been doing Kenwood a lot lately for head units. Overall clean look and user friendly interface. No complaints on sound quality either. If you really want to do something nice go for the double din Kenwood touch screen, that is what I have and love it.

That looks seriously sharp. And along the lines of what I want. I'll get some pics today of what I'm working with. The previous owner is a super great dude, but as I'm tracking problems, I am hating his mechanic more and more.
