After 40,000+ miles on my 2023 Suburban , I finally had a notice on my screen that there was an update available. I followed the instruction and after about 15 minutes I had a successful update message. However it never told me what it updated. Anyone else get this? Anyone know what the update is???

Perhaps look at your update history, then do an online search with whatever update numbers are provided?

My wife purchased a new 2025 Equinox RS AWD that had an OTA update fail, leaving the radio and both dash screens on all the time, even with the engine off and the doors locked.

I took it back to the dealer the next day, fearing the battery would be run-down.

The dealership was aware of the defective OTA update and did a software update to fix it, and applied other software updates. The service advisor was unable (or didn’t care) to tell me what the updates did (other than fix the defective GM OTA update). He could only tell me that the technician did seven software updates.

GM has numerous problems with their vehicle software and keep pushing out OTA and dealer updates in an attempt to fix the defects - and at times, the OTA updates create new defects.

I believe any time an update is done, GM should have to provide a clear explanation of what was done to the vehicle.

On mine it says “learn more” button next to install update. It lists all it does before you update.

Not sure of the newer trucks have an updated OS. Mine says Android 14.

GM and other makes and models are battling with software issues. I had a couple Land Rovers and it took them awhile to figure it out as well.

The problem is that GM is manufacturing and selling new vehicles with KNOWN software defects and no repair solution, other than “Engineering is working on a solution”.

GM should be fined for every new vehicle they sell with a known software defect, with no fix available.

The dealer probably removed the tracker from car.. trackers and other devices connected to OBD port block OTA…

**the dealers are sneaking the trackers into the car and using g a Y splitter, unless you know to look and get upside down. It just sits there even if you don’t buy the service or if they decide to repo the car…

We ordered the car and paid cash - no financing.

Other customers were returning with 2025 Equinox models the same day that I did - all with the radio and screens that would not turn off, although the engine was off and the car locked.

It doesn’t matter if u paid cash.. many dealers automatically install trackers in each vehicle. Think “LoJack” as part of pre delivery inspection PDI

The dealer where I bought my vehicle from had a 'lojack' form they wanted me to sign, I called the dealer and told them we never discussed that device or the add-on cost. He told me he is giving it to me for free to which I replied I don't care that it is free I don't want it. I was purchasing remotely and he told me to remove that lojack form from the notary's documents or just put an x through the lojack document and leave it with the rest of the forms. I removed the form and threw it away.

There was nothing physically plugged into the ODB port and a quick glance didn't appear that any y cables/splitters were used but I'm not sure how far out of their way they go to install these things. When the vehicle arrived the first thing I checked was the OBD port and wiring around that area, it does look like the factory 'thick' cables plug directly into the OBD port (on the rear of the port) and it didn't look as if anything extra/non-factory was there, but I also didn't inspect it very thoroughly, just a quick glance for anything obvious.

I made this thread to post about an annoying GPS 'update' which I think was a mistake on GM's part, it has been corrected in the latest update that I received.

In my state, it is a felony to attach a tracking device to a vehicle without the owner’s permission.

There are exceptions, such as for law enforcement, parent of minor children, elderly with medical issues, etc.

How did you determine that “many” dealers install trackers in each vehicles?

It was just recently reported in the news that a local multi franchise auto dealer to me had trackers installed in customers cars/trucks at his Ford dealership and this is no sub prime car dealer.

In CA and NV they put them in most cars, I think it’s a upsell and insurance thing. @nomech you need a light and to get in ur back, they are usually zip tied up towards the fuse block. Even though you refused activation the stupid thing maybe in there and blocking your OTA… I’d guess dealer cost is less then $25 ( or free ). Costs more to throw.let it drive away then to uninstall.

I’ll take a look with a light but I’m receiving the OTAs just fine. I’ve done three since I’ve had the car. It’s been just over a year now.
