2013 LT with 105k miles. Tapping at 60k (2021 when I bought from previous owner). DOD delete in 2022. Tapping came back 2024, but yesterday this is what happened when I turned it on

Brought it to a mechanic and he said I probably threw a rod. I’m over it and ready to cut my losses. How much are these things selling for needing a new engine? In the northeast

OUCH…….. if the engine is the only problem……. Options……. Depends on your budget……. and time…….

How is the rest of it doing?? Compare the cost of replacing the engine verses buying another Tahoe.

to be honest that's almost to loud to be a rod and not lock up within a few minutes.

but I get you're over it.

if it's a aluminum 6.2 it might be worth something to someone to rebuild for a ls swap. if not, I have no idea who's in the market for blown up trucks

DOD delete or disable?

Two years isn't much time for a delete..

And tapping came back in '24, have you been driving with tapping the past year?

A closer video at idle would help a bunch. Just listening to the vid i can't tell if it is crank or cam speed? Is the noise high, low, front, back?
Maybe a torque convertor bolt has come loose and hitting something.
Could be a hundred things listening from far away revved up.
Sure could be a rod but from that vid it almost sounds to tinny for a rod to me.
If there was a hole in the block from a rod going through it i doubt it would even be running by now.

I doubt a cell phone audio will be accurate enough. His mechanic says a rod. Maybe a destroyed bearing ?

Delete. Brought it to a LS performance shop and basically rebuilt the whole thing. And yep. I didn’t want to fix it again.

It’s a 5.3 but it’s not worth fixing up again

I’m disappointed I did the engine once already. And the rest of it probably isn’t worth it to fix AGAIN.

I guess my thing is rod or not, it’s definitely coming from the engine and I really don’t want to do the whole thing over AGAIN. I’ll take an idle video today!

Sounds more like a top end noise but hard to tell from video.

This reminds me of when we were shopping for a rig for the wife, a car dealer had a denali listed for a price that was within my range. when we showed up it was not visible anywhere and I when I asked about it the sales lady said she would have someone bring it up front, I heard them start it from a few hundred feet away, clicking and clacking the whole way from out back and they pulled it right up front to us and god it was making a racket.... I turned and looked at the sales lady and she just acted like not a dam thing was wrong lol stone cold poker face.
I just shook my head and we left.
