I made the same conclusion with my 2002 Tahoe. Installed a deflector, loved the look, but removed it for the same reason less than a year later.

So, while driving home today from the local hardware store I noticed a high frequency vibe in my steering wheel when turning the wheel either left or right. Suspect a power steering pump going bad. Went on Rock Auto and could not find a name brand pump that I would feel comfortable with installing if my pump needs to be replaced. Believe it or not the original factory pump lasted 300K miles.

SAME. I installed a bug shield for what they are actually intended for, "to reduce bug guts everywhere". Every time I went for a long drive at night, my truck would be COVERED in bugs. I thought it would actually help, but it really didn't do much. It kept them off the hood and reduced the amount on the windshield, but the grill, headlights, turn signals and bumper were still getting COVERED in bugs after a long night time drive. Plus I suspected that the new turbulence noise at highway speeds was because of the bug shield as that's about when it started. After I removed it, the wind noise went away. Bottom line; bug shields are useless unless you actually LIKE the way they look, or like wind noise at highways speeds, because other than looks they serve no purpose.

Got it home a few hours ago. On my way to grab the stand from my buddy's house so I can start the assembly tomorrow.

I'm still on my original pwr steering pump also. Unless it was replaced under warranty before I bought the truck, then it's original. I did replace the fluid many years ago, so that may or may not add to the longevity of the pump life. I've heard of some people adding an inline filter on the steering pump lines. Not sure if that actually serves any real purpose, but I do think replacing the fluid does help. It's been about a decade now since I replaced my pwr steering fluid, I imagine it's time to do it again. Lol

Heads are done. Probably going to order a new torque converter for it before dropping it in.

I was talking to the neighbor when I spotted a stain under my left rear tire.


She never ceases to let me down. Looks to be coming from the brake line where the line is flared going into the threaded end. When the rear was installed the mechanic used copper line--the good stuff--so it isn't a rusty line. Just as I was getting ready to bleed the brakes--finally. Guess I'll look at it tomorrow. This is BULL$HIT.
