Honestly I wants sure how the starter should act off the car hahaha. So the gear should only deploy when the solenoid pushes out to connect with flywheel. Thank you so much. Let me shop a starter.
ya, I updated with a video above showing how to bench test, either way when you tilted it forward and the gear slid up that is why one of the noises is happening even though it may stay back from it most of the time vibration alone will make it move and smack on the flex plate

You found your problem. As Wes says, that gear is supposed to retract on its own, so that's the failure mode I was speaking of. Unless it's left for a while, it won't produce any abnormal wear or shavings. Throw a new starter in there and you're done.

probably worthwhile to get a oem starter, if there are cheap ones out there be sure it has the same or more killawats i.e. 1.4/1.7 are typical sometimes youy can find more heavy duty

Delco was $300, so I got the duralast for 160 after a coupon. Specs are the same and it’s lifetime replacement.
