Hi everybody. Original owner of 2001 4WD Yukon SLT. Has been a great truck. It’s a backup driver now, and hauls my mountain bike to the trails, plus we use it for family airport pickups and hauling big stuff around. I lurked around the site a little and appreciate the good crowd here. Looking for some info on an audio/infotainment overhaul to integrate Apple CarPlay, and general advice on keeping the next 170,000 miles as trouble free as the first 170,000 miles!

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Regarding an audio system upgrade, go to Crutchfield.com and enter your truck's information, and you will see what is available for your truck at various price points. Once you find something of interest, call the Crutchfield folks, and they will tell you what interface unit you will need to make the upgrade plug and play, while maintaining all existing functionality.

Welcome from Texas!

Nice looking rig! I’m glad she’s been a solid, reliable unit for you, and keep taking care of her, she’ll definitely keep going!

A second to the advice from @Joseph Garcia about Crutchfield. They know what they’re doing, and will provide what you need to integrate seamlessly with your factory audio. (At a very competitive price, while no one else I’m aware of provides their level of connectivity and expertise) I went with a Pioneer touchscreen unit from them, with CarPlay. I’d probably not recommend Pioneer anymore, as I think their quality has diminished over the last 20 years or so.. what you go with will depend a lot on your budget, and I’d highly recommend going with wireless CarPlay if you can justify the cost. It’s worlds better than my wired version..

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. I took your advice and followed my own instincts to go with Crutchfield. Added a wireless CarPlay compatible Sony head unit; swapped out all the partially-disintegrated speakers, and installed a backup camera. Plus, removed the cassette player and filled in the hole with a handy cubby that’s added functionality and improved aesthetics. Form follow function but form matters too, right?!?

Along the way in the 3 months since I joined the TYF, I’ve detailed from top to bottom and upgraded a bunch other other relatively simple stuff like incandescent bulbs (added LED for interior, reverse, and headlights, and new incandescent for the flashing and brake bulbs); cabin air filters, engine air filter; HVAC vent door actuator; new fog lights; all the usual stuff that us Newbs learn in this helpful club. Moderators are doing a great job, by the way. The ratio of positive energy to hateful trolling is really high.

Now I’m getting my sh….rrrrrrr information together for suspension refurb. I think I’ll use Bilstein 4600. Need to watch some YouTube and figure out if I can do this myself.

Welcome. What part ? I’m in Tucson
Fountain Hills, just outside of Phoenix. Like you, we’re up at about 1800 feet MSL so maybe a few degrees cooler and out of the smog.

Like you we have to watch out for the Sun but at least don’t have to deal w undercarriage rust from salt on the roads!

See you out and about!
