That's fine by me. I have an apple phone for work and I wish I could run it over daily. My wife and daughters would disagree and think their phones are "just the best ever!" LOL

I like the options available on android and not a locked down device. But, I will say the IPad for work has been fantastic and works well.

Toyota tried that and it failed miserably. Rent seeking almost always backfires on these companies and this is an incredibly obvious example.

Make everything electric and subscription based, here comes chapter 11…

Not new news, but it’s currently only being dropped in EV’s. I do think it’s a bit of a bad move for safety; as that is the key benefit of car play…minimizing the txt while driving

GMC isn't just getting rid of Apple Car Play, it's also getting rid of Android Auto as well

"General Motors is to phase out the use of Apple CarPlay and its arch rival, Android Auto, from its cars. Existing vehicles will obviously retain the tech, but new electric models will switch to an integrated infotainment system developed with Google.

That’s according to Reuters, which says the first vehicle to benefit will be the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer. GM’s major motivation is to equip its electric cars, trucks and SUVs with tech that is capable of capturing more data that can be crunched to show how drivers use and charge their EVs."

yeah, old news (sorta). Initially i was like waaaaaaa? I use it al the time and like it a lot for integration of mapping, music, etc. I guess what I like most about it is I can do stuff on my phone before leaving the house (e.g. map search) and it will be ready for when i am in the car. It is EVs only, and I expect it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Of note: Tesla and Rivian don't have it, and it does not seem to be hurting their popularity. I think the success will depend on the implementation. For an EV, it might make sense.

Also, you will still be able to stream music from the phone, and the phone communication features should work (talk, text). Basically as I can figure, what you might miss is Apple/Google maps, ABRP, WAZE

I think android and Apple limit a manufacturers ability to do things with the systems so phasing it out makes sense if they want more creative control. Hopefully it works well. But I doubt you will lose any specific feature.

"creative control" = more ways to create an additional revenue stream even after the vehicle is sold

you'll lose the ability to have "free" navigation that interfaces with the vehicle when carplay and android auto are phased out.

I'd fully expect whatever platform they utilize to offer "<insert name> maps/navigation" and for it to be subscription based i guess the way the current infotainment is set up. Don't think we've even really accessed the google mess on our 23 tahoe since we aren't paying a monthly fee and didn't buy a GMC that was marked up for those costs.
