V Escalade

Other than my general tendency to go through my daily drivers rather quickly, it boiled down to the fact that I did not enjoy driving it. Despite its marketing it’s not a performance SUV, it’s mostly just a Platinum with a big blower and an exhaust. It handles like a regular Escalade, it brakes like a regular Escalade, which is unfortunate on both fronts given the extra power it has. Even in its most aggressive driving modes the throttle response at speed is ridiculously slow, if you’re going 60mph you can basically mash the throttle down and let it go and the car hasn’t moved an mph faster whilst it’s trying to sort out what gear to put itself in … you can literally get on an off the throttle quickly time after time and nothing happens other than hearing the engine rev up through the exhaust. The exhaust itself is epic, in fact too epic … it is unreasonably loud on a cold start, so much so that I had to start it with my garage doors down every morning to spare my neighbors. I love an aggressive exhaust and it was great the rest of the time, but this was one more issue.

It looked fantastic, especially dropped on 24s, the tech and interior were beautiful, but I just did not enjoy driving it, at least not as much as other performance SUVs I’ve owned and/or driven, like the X5M Comp, RR Sport SVR, GLS63, RSQ8, Durango Hellcat … in fact the latter is what I went back to. It’s a dated design inside and out, but handles amazingly well for an SUV, is much faster, brakes better, has perfect exhaust sound and supercharger whine, instant throttle response, it is a complete performance SUV package (basically a 710hp murica version of the X5M) that I look forward to driving every day with a grin on my face.

Again the V is a great fit for someone that wants the room, loves the presence, style, cache, and tech it has, enjoys straight line speed and an epic exhaust, it just isn’t a great fit for someone who prioritizes overall driving dynamics.

I will agree with unreasonably loud. It's just stupid loud, even on the quietest setting. It's a Cadillac, should be refined quiet. The other annoyances are the various modes. Touring mode / snow mode / towing mode should have the exhaust closed, not 1/2 way open. If I wanted loud, I'd buy a sportscar.

I'm concerned that BMW has done a similar disservice with their recent release of the XM. They didn't push the envelop enough AND they added all the weight of a hybrid.

Caddy should have put a 20% improvement into the drivability.

@soulsea Thanks for sharing the additional information and feedback that lead you to your decision.

Really unfortunate to hear based on the vehicle hype and price tag that GM/Cadillac has placed on it.
