Consumer reports rates 2022 Yukon 2/100 in Reliability

We (inlaws included, 4 families) currently have a small fleet of gm/chevy trucks or suvs with many owned in the past and I cannot think of a time anybody has had any major issues. The oldest is probably my '95 silverado with 265K miles on it that will NEVER die up to our '21 yukon and pretty much every generation of silverado in between. GM and Chevy seem to be quite reliable from what I've personally seen.

Roll of the dice.............. GM bought back my 2003 Bravada that was anything but trouble free. They replaced it with a 2003 Envoy that had a fair share of issues that were fortunately fixed by the time the warranty wore out.

I've been a GM buyer all my life...BUT my 2020 Tahoe is nowhere close to a 2001 tahoe in reliability.. EVERTHING is made in CHINA. I opened up the BCM all the parts MADE IN CHINA and made of expensive plastic.Now i am having a crank and no start problem.The new Diesel engines...at 120 K miles you have to remove the trans to change the belt at the back of the engine.. What are they thinking.. Have them made here in the US with US parts,, Not China or Mexico.

Let me know when you find any vehicle that is all made in USA....And you are misinformed about the oil pump belt. Its recommended change is 150K, and GM is now considering extending this to 200K. Most people don't even keep their vehicles that long. Crank no start issue can easily be corrected by a software patch at your dealer. Although I don't know how you could have a Dmax in a 2020 Tahoe....

Don’t get me wrong, there are obviously issues with this generation of vehicles and calling GM out on it is justified. I am not trying to defend GM at all.

My comment was on Consumer Reports in general. Their ratings don’t hold much water with me. I’ve seen friends and family religiously buy everything based on what CR rated as the “best” only to frequently get a piece of crap that doesn’t last.

I 100% agree with this, specifically after seeing Acura MDX as one of the SUVs with 3 rows that was rated very poorly by CR. On the other hand, they did rate Audi Q7 much higher within the same year putting it above Acura in reliability. Who on earth would think that a VW would beat Honda in 2020? And so I stopped believing them and signed up for this forum .

I think a saw a Youtube clip (Scotty, maybe?) that explained how CR generated their reliabiilty reports and it was based on number of incidents per 100 cars. It did not take into account the type of incident. Now that I think about it, it probably was Scotty since he railed against CR for putting a Nissan Sentra above a Toyota Corolla as the #1 most reliable car.

Here's a silly example - a hundred 2022 Yugos have 5 incidents: 3 engine explosions that killed every passenger and 2 transmission failures that caused the car to dive off a cliff, again killing every passenger inside. A hundred 2022 Corollas have an odd issue where the 11 of them had their radio volume control knob fall off. Clearly, because the Corollas have more than twice the number of incidents, it's a less reliable car than the Yugo. Makes sense, no?

Also, one other thing to note about that CR report on the 22 Yukon: it's estimated reliability. They don't have enough data so they use existing models to "predict" the 22's reliability.

Just turned 10,000 miles 2022 yukon Denali no issues.

Who cares? I didn't buy my Yukon because of some dumb review, I bought it because I liked it. Unless it's something EVERYONE is saying is bad (like a 6.4L Powerstroke) I don't care what reviews say.

CR is in the tank for foreign car companies and has been for decades, another useless source for good information about GM vehicles.
