My 2015 Yukon SLT has navigation, but it kinda sucks, and I am not sure buying upgrade it worth the cost.

It seems the website that was doing it has gone the way of the infamous dodo bird.

I was wondering if I could find a 2016 (as I understand in 2016, Apple Car Play/Android Auto were standard) or newer in a wrecking yard, could I snag the nodules from it and swap them in to upgrade what I have., or are the modules linked to the VIN?

Couldn't really find anything about this potential option here, so figured I would ask.

While me and my wife both have phones with Google Maps, it would be nice to have it up on the screen in the dash instead of a phone holder.

the modules would need to be learned to the vin, they are not pug-n-play
a few sellers on ebay offer a solution with the modules programmed to work in your vehicle
it's not cheap to do but it can be done

Go with an aftermarket head unit that is compatible with Android Auto.

with the k2's it's kind of a toss up on the use of aftermarket or oem, in my opinion most the aftermarket solutions out there are not very attractive design wise.
cost wise it's the same upgrading oem is one way and going all aftermarket is another, on my 18 I have the stock headunit but added a wireless adapter for android auto and used a module to add my amps and speakers.
sounds like they just want to upgrade for android auto/carplay which just requires a couple oem modules and is pretty easy to accomplish, android wireless can be done as well with a simple usb plug in adapter. (motorola ma1) once the other modules are installed. there are also usb solutions for wireless carplay out there.
I think the 3rd party oem module upgrades (io5/io6) run about $400-600 or so last time I checked
the 8" screen is required which can be additional cost if not already equipped.

Where are you seeing them for $400-$600? I've have seen most be $800-$1000

you can get the module used cheaper it then just has to be programmed to the vin, some sellers offer vin programming and some do not, you would need to inquire with your delaer if they will do it or not. but regardless the correct module has to be used and that varies from vehicle to vehicle. it takes some research

Gotcha, but I would still need to get it programmed and I would still need the newer usb and such I assume. So would something like Costal Flash be a better option?

when I was looking before some sellers were offering vin programming for stock use, cables should all be the same unless you are going to use nav in which case there is a Y adapter to use the built in antenna versus adding a extra gps antenna.
but if you wanted to use video in motion or sd card video, blue ray, etc then it would need a 3rd party hack or additional adapters.
