Hi there ! We’ve had our Yukon XL Denali diesel for about 6 months and love it!

Out of curiosity , does anyone know if this seam has a functional purpose or is it just cosmetic ? At first I thought it was the bottom edge of the lift gate glass , similar to the 3 gen explorers where the lip was lower so that items could be placed in easier , but that does not appear to be the case. On my vehicle the portion above the seam is slightly raised vs the bottom portion . Thanks !

Just the way GM designed the stamping for the liftgate. Above the seam is a plastic piece painted body color plus the chromed plastic accent piece (and

Here's what the sheetmetal stamping looks like.

That’s really cool to see . Always fascinating to see the engineering that goes behind these great vehicles . Can’t imagine the amount of R & D they have to do to make the frame modular and support the trucks with the live axle and the suvs with the IRS

The trucks have a completely different frame.

The seam on the 2015-2020 models is similar. I talked with a guy who said he used to assemble the tailgates and they had to discard many of the tailgates during production for flaws in this area and seam. Also at least on my 2019 the tailgate is plastic, not aluminum or steel.
